We are LIVE with @maeveorourke and Prof. Eugenio Biagini (@SidneySussex) talking about transitional justice and historic institutional abuses on the island of Ireland. Join us here: bit.ly/3ZYDnj0
Or follow below ⬇️
Eugenio asks about the difference between the Republic and NI. She discusses how NI has prioritised survivors more in the aftermath and have clearly learned from the Republic's failings. However, as the religious orders were cross-border, the practices of abuse were very similar.
On the implications for the future of the island of Ireland, Maeve is hopeful that future inquiries will be handled differently. She thinks there is a huge opportunity with commemoration and truth-telling, particularly about creating sites of memory.
