The fundamental difference between conservative and liberal jurisprudence, imo, is whether you think the meaning of a law is determined immediately after its passage or whether it’s the outcome of a deliberative process that eventually converges on a stable meaning.

Between Putin bombing orphanages and Mirra Andreeva hitting a soft tennis ball into the stands, Russia is truly producing some of the worlds greatest monsters
18 years old… and it’s not the first — or even the second — time we’ve seen this kind of aggression. What if that ball had hit someone in the head? Sadly, this kind of behavior is becoming the norm for players from countries with no flag and no name… 📹 WTA TV

if you would kill thousands to save one of your friends but you wouldn’t suck off a stranger to do so, then you don’t like saving your friends, you like killing strangers.

wrong, I’m thinking of a number between 0 and 1 and it’s 1/3
Think of a number between 0 and 1. The probability that it's rational is 0

I think the difference is that birthright citizenship is actually in the constitution. overturning roe was bad but the legal case for a constitutional right to abortion was always a stretch
Let me spoil this for you now, after a few months winding its way through the lower courts, the Supreme Court will rule 6-3 that birthright citizenship is not actually found in the Constitution. We will all act shocked and appalled and then do nothing, like when Roe fell.👍

My only DST take is that it’s absurd to want noon to be the center of the time with sunlight. For most people the center of their waking hours is around 3pm. for the center of your day to be noon you would have to go to bed at 8 and wake up at 4.

Google engineer decides that we can’t have nice things (scenic option in Maps) bc it wouldn’t be fair infantilizing users by denying core realities like beautiful streets is driving culture away from the promise of technology and into the arms of degrowth

What gets missed in the debate about whether you should “be yourself” is that demonstrating who you are legibly in social situations is a particular skill that is very related to the skill of pretending to be someone else

why doesn’t israel just build a really tall wall between israel and gaza, and then build a really deep moat behind the wall filled with mines and explosives and stuff so no one can tunnel in. the border is only 32 miles so this seems doable.
