Cool! I get to learn how to be mindful with my RTX 2060 when fiddling with graphics programming.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 prices soar past $2,000 at US retailers. 🔗 wccf.tech/1lgc5 The RTX 5080 graphics cards are now selling for roughly $1,800 to well over $2,300, with cheaper models frequently out of stock.

One hill I'll happily die on: the normalization of "ship fast" culture at the expense of proper SDLC has played a significant role in the quality of vulnerable code being pushed into production and the rise of CVEs and enshitification of software for the last several years. We've systematically traded engineering rigor for velocity, security assurance for investor confidence, and long-term maintainability for quarterly growth. All things I wish we would second guess and reevaluate. But the software overlords wanted products yesterday and they got them. And now the rest of us get to spend the next several years discovering exactly which corners were cut and figuring out how to deal with the immense amount of responsibility that's been dropped on our collective feet.

Genuinely, why?!?!?!?!
Discord will soon make public server messages searchable on Google The feature will be enabled by default for US adults, but users can opt out in their privacy settings
Community note
Missing context: only applies to messages posted after the update, in public channels of discoverable servers. No private servers or DMs. Indexed messages won’t show usernames or avatars. Admins can opt out entire servers; users can opt out their own messages. discord.com/blog/making-co

First image is before I hit the Refine button at 50% Strength. Second image is the after. Third is results after 40%. Genuinely, if supposed genAI cannot do something simple like increasing line weight, then it's nothing but a time waster because I can do the edit myself by hand.

Also, take a look at the third image. It changed the "BILLS" paper to "BILLE" even when I precisely DID NOT select it!!

Vibe coders acting as if making a game without AI is literally impossible after decades of people making games without AI.

Twitter is kinda doodoo feces when it comes to fostering a creative community. But at least I can gather oodles of artistic references the "For You" slot machine spits out. LMAO

I, as an artist, have given genAI chances to see if they can accelerate my comics production. I tried from only using prompts to feeding sketches. Every single time those somehow produce observable mistakes. Time spent prompting is better spent hand drawing instead.

If you augment yourself with Ai as an artist you contaminates your work. It's like writing, if you make your posts with Ai it may not be obvious to you but to those who can spot it. Eventually everyone sounds the same. Go visit LinkedIn It's filled with tons of this.

What I think is important is to continue caring about the things you love despite anything. The storm will pass. The chaff will be blown away. Good work will continue standing.

This is exactly what happens when meritocracy is removed from society. Most people are completely unaware of the nuts and bolts behind our critical infrastructure. At all levels, there are individuals with niche specializations who keep society functioning despite little recognition. But as society decays, we’ve not only ostracized existing specialists, but have completely stopped creating more. Instead, we’ve removed the most qualified talent through discriminatory practices, abandoned the future development of these people, and outsourced critical responsibilities they should be managing to cheap foreign labor. Today, it’s the internet, but what happens years from now when we lose the specialists responsible for managing food, water, electricity, transportation, and more? We are witnessing the loss of specialized labor, and the impact will be felt across society.
‼️ BREAKING: The private keys of 8 certificates from Indian certificate authority eMudhra were compromised, Mozilla says. Firefox blocked them within 3 hours. Each key should be a 116-digit number, but one was just 4. Anyone can guess them and forge HTTPS certs for any website.

There comes a time for a human to reach a point in life beset by two choices after timely experiencing the brutal reality of all things: laugh or cry. Of course, both can happen simultaneously, but only one feeling will claim victory. So, which is it?

The history of computing is full of people whose contributions are easy to forget once their work becomes part of the background. We use open protocols, free software, public knowledge repositories, and internet infrastructure without necessarily remembering the people who fought to create or preserve them.

I wasn’t good at coloring when I first started, but over time, I improved & now I’m pretty passable. Same can be true for writing. It’s a skill you can learn. Don’t limit your skillset as an artist because you’re told you can’t do it by other people.
