Marjane Satrapi was so brilliant. Her husband completed last year, and she followed him. I know this pain. She is at peace and no longer in pieces. Watch Persepolis tonight in her honor.
RIP Marjane Satrapi, the great cartoonist and film director, best known for PERSEPOLIS. She was only 56. A great talent. She will be missed.

I first learned about Marjane Satrapi through a Yemeni friend who absolutely idolized her. It speaks volumes to her genius that her stories of resistance, family & identity could resonate so deeply across borders. A massive loss for the world today. RIP🖤 npr.org/2026/06/04/nx-s1-584…

no one really understanding what “died of sadness” means and that’s what makes people celebrating satrapi’s death even more distasteful

Some leftists are becoming the exact thing they’re spent their whole life fighting against and condemning. They probably don’t want to hear that but it’s the truth.

If you're a fan of PERSEPOLIS, you owe it to yourself to also check out Marjane Satrapi's vastly underrated CHICKEN WITH PLUMS, which she adapted and co-directed from her excellent graphic novel. #RIP

Famously the only women that show up in the movie & comic. Excellent analysis Che-Larpdinejad
"she gave a face to Iranian women" The face:

in un'intervista italiana del 2023 marjane satrapi aveva detto che se mai l'iran fosse stato di nuovo libero così come lo intendeva lei sarebbe tornata lì per mangiare la mortadella iraniana e guardare le montagne... spero davvero che possa farlo nel posto in cui si trova adesso
Rest in peace, Marjane Satrapi. We've lost one of the world's greatest cartoonists. It is gut wrenching to think how her story began with a homeland at war, and it ended with it at war still.

people hated on this so fucking much without even watching the movie and realizing this is a scene that symbolizes her being able to recover after attempting suicide.

You don't understand how important Marjan Satrapi was to me as an Iranian woman who grew up in France. You don't understand how deeply she impacted my feelings towards my countries and my femininity. My profile photo in every plateform is from persepolis. مرسی مرجان عزیز

Shattered by the loss of Marjane Satrapi. A decade after one of my favorite English teachers assigned us Persepolis, I interviewed Marjane for her Marie Curie biopic. Sharp, wise, goddamn funny. One of my favorite times on the job ever. From 2020: inverse.com/entertainment/ra…
