Kanādas parlamentā tikāmies ar Pārstāvju palātas Aizsardzības komitejas priekšsēdētāju Čārlzu Sousu un deputātiem, pēc tam - ar palātas spīkeru Frensisu Skarpaledžu. Tikāmies arī ar Kanādas ārlietu ministra parlamentāro sekretāru Robu Olifantu. Sarunās Kanādas parlamenta Aizsardzības komitejā diskusijas bija par šodien svarīgāko - par drošību, par draudiem un par sadarbību. Šodienas draudi daļai kļūst īsti un būtiski tikai tad, kad tos nosauc vārdā - tieši to arī aicināju kanādiešu kolēģus darīt, kad viņi runā par Kanādas apdraudējumiem Arktikā. Tā, protams, ir Krievija. Un ar suverenitātes piesaukšanu šajā kontekstā var nebūt gana, lai panāktu sabiedrības atbalstu drošības stiprināšanai. Dalījos arī ar mūsu pieredzi - aizsardzības spējas jāattīsta, mācoties no Ukrainas, un vietējai industrijai jādod reāla iespēja piesaistīt finansējumu un ražot to, kas vajadzīgs jau tagad. Latvijai tas nozīmē arī ciešāku praktisku sadarbību ar Kanādu, kuras karavīri jau atrodas Latvijā, vadot NATO paplašinātās klātbūtnes kaujas grupu. Vēl viena satikšanās - ne tikšanās - šodien palika prātā: cilvēki pie Krievijas vēstniecības Otavā. Kopš Krievijas pilna mēroga iebrukuma Ukrainā viņi tur protestē katru darba dienu. Viņu neatlaidība atgādina, kāpēc arī mūsu atbalsts Ukrainai nedrīkst kļūt par tukšu frāzi, ko piekabināt kārtējai uzrunai. Šajā ziņā atbalsts ir izmērāms, taustāms, redzams - ne tik daudz izstāstāms.
