Divers have recovered 52 bodies from a ferry that capsized in Indonesia earlier this month. The Virgo Transport 8 ferry issued a distress call in rough water in the Java Sea on 13th September with 243 people on board. Authorities later discovered the vessel had capsized. 108 people were initially rescued but dozens have remained missing. With the latest recoveries, there are still 83 people unaccounted for. A powerful explosion has torn through a building in Athens’ historic Plaka district, injuring at least two people and sending debris and broken glass flying as far as three blocks away. Nearby homes, shops and cars were also damaged in the blast, which happened close to major landmarks including the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The cause remains unclear as firefighters continue to inspect the scene. Two women trapped in a neighbouring building were rescued and taken to hospital.
