Pete Alonso called it "unacceptable" for Orioles to not reach postseason in 2026 and not what he believes the standard is for this club.
"Truth be told, there’s been some great moments, but that’s not the expectation. As a club, we failed to perform and do what we were supposed to do. We had great moments, great individual performances, but as a whole, that’s not the standard here. And that’s unacceptable for us.
"There’s a lot of things to learn from, there’s a lot of good that happened, but that’s not the expectation and that’s not why we’re here. The standard for us is to not only make the postseason, but make a run and have a legitimate shot to hold up a trophy at the end of the year, and we didn’t even give ourselves an opportunity to enter the dance in October.
"So next year, whatever needs to happen, we need to do a better job. We need to do a better job as players, because that’s what it boils down to. At the end of the day, you can have all the help, all the coaching, all the information, but it’s about getting it done between the lines, and collectively as a group, we didn’t do that. And the expectation is to be a great team. We’ve got a chance to be 81-81, but again, where we’re at, we should take some time to reflect and just be like, ‘Hey, what do we need to do more of?’ And really focus on those things in the offseason and then be ready to go when we break camp next year and full steam ahead."
