Over the past few days, our team in Toronto weathered the city's biggest snowstorm in history—nearly two feet in less than 24 hours. This didn't stop our team from charging up! ❄️🔌 We've dug ourselves out of the snow and are back in the office today. (Shout out to our partner @IvyCharge, who kept their network running throughout the storm and helped many Ontarians make it home.)

We just wrapped up the inaugural Open Charge Alliance + @evroaming North America Member Meeting, hosted at our very own ChargeLab HQ. Some of our highlights: • The OCA launched its new whitepaper on EV charger network migrations • We heard from experts on EV charger cybersecurity • Lonneke Driessen gave an update on all the progress across OCPP working groups • We discussed the crucial interplay between OCPP for charger communications and OCPI for handshakes between charging networks • Michel Bayings prepared us for the upcoming release of OCPI 3.0 Thank you to everyone who joined us from Europe, Asia, and all across North America! 🌎

Today, we're hosting North America's very first Member Meeting for the Open Charge Alliance and @evroaming. We've welcomed 40+ industry experts to discuss open standards for EV charging, interoperability, cybersecurity, and everything else that goes into building a better EV charging experience. This morning, we heard from OCA Director Lonneke Driessen, plus engaging panelists who spoke about OCPP network migrations and security. This afternoon, we'll cover V2X, local controllers, and the interplay between OCPP and OCPI. Tomorrow is all about roaming, with EVRoaming Foundation Director Michel Bayings kicking off a packed agenda. We're proud to support both of these non-profit organizations that are working to standardize EV charging for all 💪

David’s experience in the EV charging industry spans nearly a decade, starting with the growth of ChargePoint’s Canadian business back in 2017. Since then, David has held senior roles at ChargePoint, Wallbox, and as an independent consultant. He has worked on some of the largest EV infrastructure programs across North America. Last week, we hosted ChargeFest 2025! We flew our entire team to Toronto for an annual onsite with 50+ team members. We walked away from the event with three big takeaways: 1. The EV landscape is shifting: Nothing is static in the world of electric vehicles and EV charging. Federal support for EVs in the US is down, but adoption is still growing. Innovation across EV models, charging stations, and business models continues to push the industry forward. Our job is to skate to where the puck is going, and that’s exactly what our team did last week. 2. AI is real: Not just for developers, but for everyone. We ran a cross-functional hackathon last week. Every team had representation from sales, ops, product, and engineering. In one afternoon, we built 8 new GPTs to automate processes within ChargeLab—from spinning up test chargers to running advanced database queries. Many of the GPTs we built last week will continue to be used, saving hundreds of hours for our team and our customers. 3. Behind every great technology is great people: Every product we ship and customer we serve is powered by incredible individuals. ChargeFest is not just a planning session and hackathon; it’s a celebration of the human beings shaping the future of EV charging. Nothing beats the energy of getting all of us in one room. Today, we’re launching OpenOCPP, an open-source embedded software that makes any EV charger speak OCPP 1.6J and 2.0.1. OpenOCPP gives EV charger manufacturers a huge head start by providing a compliant, secure, and pre-certified OCPP implementation—for free! Over the past five years, our team has integrated 200 different OCPP EV chargers. We’ve learned all the “dos” and “don’ts” of implementing OCPP on a resource-constrained device like a Level 2 charger. Two years ago, we decided to build our own embedded software that would tightly conform to OCPP specs. And today, we’re open-sourcing the whole project. Our goal with OpenOCPP is to help EV charger manufacturers save time, money, and headaches, especially when adopting OCPP 2.0.1. OpenOCPP does not just help ChargeLab, it helps our whole industry.
