Legendary companies rarely scale in a linear fashion. When you look at the greatest companies and founders, you’ll find that they bypassed consistency and took leaps forward at various points along their journey, despite differences in their values, leadership style, and path to success. These leaps take vision, inspiration, conviction, strategy, energy, and, most importantly, action. You have to know where you’re aiming, commit with conviction, and then stick the landing. Every leap starts with a leader. A leader must be fearless to take leaps and needs to inspire the team to follow. The CEO has to be the most fearless and push the company to solve the boldest and hardest problems and shape their business and industry. In addition, leaders need to be right a lot. While they have often made plenty of mistakes, they also have strong judgment and good instincts. They seek diverse perspectives and work to disconfirm their beliefs. As @JensenHuang has said, "no one wants to follow a dumb CEO with a bad strategy."

EVERY YEAR on 9/11 I say a special prayer for Tu Anh Pham, whose first day back from maternity leave was 9/10/01. Her first & only baby was 6 weeks old that day, and she worked on a floor that took a direct hit from the first plane. Her funeral was more like a baby shower--sad, but also hopeful for her beautiful baby girl, who's now 25 and clearly has a lot of her very determined, wicked-smart and fabulous mother in her. “Hire great people and get out of their way” is the worst advice I ever got as a founder/CEO. As founder & CEO, you have context that no one else has. Your role matters. Push your team, empower them, but you own the big calls — for good reason.

Many of you have followed me here for years. You know the subjects I work on, the sources I care about, and the degree to which I obsess over language, texts, manuscripts, history, and the traditions surrounding them. So when I say I think what I have been building may be significant, I hope you know I do not say that casually. For roughly the past six months, I have been working intensely on a project that I have largely kept private. It sits at the intersection of Tora study, language, textual scholarship, technology, and AI. Until now, I have spent most of that time building the foundation myself. A few weeks ago, a good friend and teacher pushed me to present a small part of it at the Sephardic Rabbinic Conference. I had only a short amount of time to demonstrate what I had built and explain where I thought it could go. The reaction in the room convinced me that it was time to begin thinking much more seriously about the next stage rather than continuing to keep it largely to myself. Since then, a few schools and school principals have independently reached out about the project and its potential use with their students. I have not gone out looking for institutional adoption yet, so seeing that kind of interest this early has only reinforced for me that there may be something much larger here. I am now reaching the point where one person is no longer enough. What began as a largely one-man project needs to become a serious, properly structured effort with the people, technology, scholarship, and capital necessary to build it at the scale I think is possible. I need builders who understand product, engineering, AI, data, and design; people deeply grounded in textual scholarship, languages, and the digital humanities; and people who understand early-stage projects, venture building, philanthropy, institutional partnerships, and funding ambitious ideas before they are fully obvious to everyone else. I know quite a few people in those worlds happen to follow me here. Rather than DMing or calling people out of the blue, I thought this was the more respectful way to open the door. So if this is in your wheelhouse, or if over the years I have earned even an ounce of your trust or goodwill, please reach out privately. And if this is not your field, but someone immediately comes to mind who I should be speaking with, I would be grateful for an introduction or a tag. I would also appreciate people helping this reach beyond my immediate circle. If you have followed my work closely enough to speak to the seriousness of my scholarship, the way I approach texts and sources, or simply the degree to which I tend to obsess over these things, please feel free to RT or QT this and add your own thoughts. That kind of vouching would mean far more than anything I could say about myself. I am intentionally keeping the details fairly close for now. There will be a time to talk publicly about exactly what I am building. For the moment, I am looking for the right people. If this sounds like something you should be part of, reach out. In 1881 the number of people who spoke Hebrew as their mother tongue was zero. It had been a dead everyday language for ~2,000 years. Today ~5 million speak it natively. It's the only dead language in history that was ever brought back to life.
