Loren Schauers was 18 and driving a forklift on a construction bridge in Montana, USA, when the machine fell 15 meters and left him trapped underneath. It was in September 2019. The crushing injuries were so severe that doctors had to perform a hemipelvectomy: the complete amputation of all the part of his body located below the lumbar spine, including his legs, genitals, and anus. He also lost part of his right arm. His height went from 1.83 meters to just 81 centimeters. Today, at 24, he lives in Great Falls with his wife Sabia Reiche, who has been taking care of him day and night since their wedding in 2021. Loren said that the hardest part wasn't the amputations, but finding out he would never be able to have children. Their story, which they share on YouTube, was featured on the cameras of TLC's "One Day In My Body."
