robinhood:0xf39a492d391970410b4ee685bdea448a5bda698a: Acorns, Rebuilt for Self-Custody
The proof is already in. Acorns showed that rounding up spare change builds real wealth. It now serves 10M+ customers who have saved and invested more than $19B, and it’s one of the biggest subscription businesses in U.S. consumer finance. The habit works, and people will pay for it.
Why on-chain versions failed. Earlier attempts to bring round-ups to crypto kept the custodial model. They held user funds, so the company became the single point of failure. That misses the reason many of us are on-chain in the first place: we want to hold our own money.
What makes Dust different
1. It runs on what you already do. You swap as normal. Dust rounds each swap up and invests the change into a stock basket you pick from 20 tokenized equities, including NVDA, TSLA, AAPL, SPY, PLTR and MSTR. There’s no deposit schedule and nothing to manage.
2. It’s non-custodial. Your vault belongs to you, and only you can withdraw. That stays true even if the website goes down.
3. It’s audited. CredShields found zero critical issues, confirmed the high-severity fix on retest, and the full report is public.
4. It’s multi-chain from day one. Dust is live on Robinhood Chain, on Base with Aerodrome, and on Arc, with more integrations in the pipeline.
5. The fees are fair. Dust takes 1% only when your change is actually invested, and the contract caps fees at 5%.
Early traction. Dust did over $100K in volume in its first month, before the mobile app or any real marketing push.
October catalysts
1. A mobile app, coming to the App Store
2. A buyback-and-burn dashboard, plus the first public burn
3. Holder multipliers
4. Auto-rebalancing
5. A public metrics dashboard covering round-ups, volume and active vaults
The core thesis. Most of crypto trades and never saves. Dust turns the activity people already have into a portfolio, with almost no extra effort. Acorns proved the model in traditional finance, and a self-custodial version for on-chain users is the obvious next step. Dust is early to it.
