I seem to have upset the @SuellaBraverman fan club - so let me be clear. This women sows hate, lies and division. She is wrong. She does not represent the vast majority of Britons. RT if you agree P.s. multiculturalism is great.

Reform’s politics boil down to grievance, division and finding somebody else to blame. Turn friend against friend, neighbour against neighbour, then call the wreckage patriotism. England deserves a future built on decency and fairness

Suella Braverman, consider Walter Tull. Born in Folkestone to an English mother and a Barbadian father. A footballer for Tottenham Hotspur and Northampton Town. A British Army officer who led soldiers into battle and was killed serving his country in 1918. If your definition of Englishness excludes a man like him, it is your definition that needs challenging.

The British government’s handling of RAF Fairford has been a bloody disgrace. Israel warned Britain. American officials allege foreign involvement. Five suspects are on police bail while the investigation continues and ministers have failed to give the public a clear, convincing explanation. This is national security. Confused messaging, evasive answers and smug assurances are an insult to everyone entitled to expect competent government. What did ministers know? What did they do? And why should anyone trust their assurances now? A government that demands public confidence must earn it. Ministers should face serious scrutiny in Parliament. Their handling of this affair deserves condemnation, not excuses.

I agree, Kemi but we must give young people a genuine route into work. Expand apprenticeships in construction, mechanics and care, help smaller firms take trainees, and protect family support until 18. Practical talent deserves a career with prospects. Train our own and build Britain.
One million young people are out of education, employment or training. Labour is wasting their potential. Our Get to Work scheme is tough love: turn up, learn skills and apply for jobs. Refuse, and your benefits are cut. If you can work, you should work. It’s that simple.

Too many young people are leaving school and signing straight onto benefits. Our plan will get them to work instead.

Every young person deserves a route to a worthwhile career, whatever their academic strengths. By 16, schools should help pupils identify their talents and offer clear pathways into college, vocational training or apprenticeships. Practical ability deserves recognition, with proper qualifications and real prospects for progression. Families should have the reassurance that child-related benefit payments will continue until 18 when their child enters an approved apprenticeship. Taking the first step into work should not leave a family worse off. We should also consider removing the apprentice minimum wage requirement for under-18s to help smaller businesses offer training places, alongside financial support for apprentices and safeguards to ensure employers provide genuine training. Construction, motor mechanics, social care and many other sectors should be part of a national drive to train our own young people. Over time, that investment could strengthen our workforce, increase tax revenues and reduce reliance on recruiting from overseas. Let’s give every British youngster a chance to learn a skill, earn a living and build a future. Academic achievement should never be the only measure of potential.

Piers, this is embarrassingly gullible. You’ve watched a politician deliver a rehearsed speech and practically written his coronation. Where are the costings, the scrutiny, the evidence he can deliver? Britain needs a credible government. You’re handing out five stars for an audition.

Andy Burnham, spare us the carefully worded “options”. If you want Britain back in the customs union or single market, have the guts to say it. You have no mandate to make that change. A standing ovation from Labour delegates is not a vote from the British public Put your plan, its costs and its consequences in front of the country and let the voters decide.
A mobile phone literally just went off in Andy Burnham’s pocket as he opened his speech at Labour conference.

Five men were arrested near RAF Fairford on suspicion of explosives offences and preparing a terrorist act. Less than two days later, all five were released on police bail. They have not been charged, and police say the investigation is continuing. Even so, the speed of that decision raises serious questions. What did the examination of the vehicles establish? Why was bail considered appropriate? Were the same standards applied as in comparable cases? At a time when Labour is holding its conference, further evidence about the case could become politically damaging. That is precisely why the public needs a clear account of the decision. There is currently no evidence that ministers interfered but scrutiny of a decision this significant is entirely justified.

Zia Yusuf has never been elected to anything, yet here he is ordering an elected government to declare a national security emergency while the police are still investigating. What an arrogant little prick.
We must declare a national security emergency.

John Healey remembers lending Gordon Brown a red tie at the 1999 Labour conference. Funny what sticks in the mind. He celebrates New Labour’s glory days while glossing over Brown’s sale of Britain’s gold reserves and the banking failures exposed by the 2008 crash. Then he talks about the Conservatives’ record as though a global pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine never happened. British voters can remember more than a borrowed tie, John.

Remember this: when Prime Minister Burke Burnham was asked about defending the realm, his answer from the Dispatch Box was. “Welfare first, defence second.” If you live near military bases, power stations, transport hubs or other vital infrastructure, you have every right to be deeply concerned. A government’s first duty is the defence of its people.

RAF Fairford is a warning and things could get much worse. When the Government advises households to be prepared to support themselves during an emergency, heed that warning. Prepare now, because once a crisis reaches your doorstep, it's too late.
