THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY OR THE WORLD WHO ADVOCATE FOR COMMUNISM SHOULD DO A LITTLE RESEARCH.
Let鈥檚 take a look at some facts. The comparison between N and S Korea is a good place to start. Stats say: South Korea鈥檚 GDP per capita is about $36,000; North Korea鈥檚 is about $1,300. That would be a gap of about 24 to 1. North Korea is officially a communist state governed by the Workers' Party of Korea. N Korea鈥檚 political system also has elements of dictatorship we would call a totalitarian regime. South Korea is market/export economy and is more prosperous.
There were definitely economic differences after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 led to a more unified Germany. The economic outcomes for the two regions of East and West Germany have been significantly different. One of the main reasons for the rise of West Germany was the market economy adopted by West Germany. This encouraged competition, innovation, and efficiency, which allowed West Germany to thrive.
Then there was Russia adopting communist policies. Russia rose and then digressed over many years, and by 1989 the system had shortages of soap, meat, and shoes but was a nuclear superpower. Russia tried for about 70 years to make communism work. They are no longer considered to be a Communist country, but they still have a party called the Communist Party of the Russian Federation within Russia.
China is a prime example of what happens under Communism. Mao鈥檚 China, for about 27 years, combined land reform along with communes and used political campaigns to rule the people. This resulted in a famine and extreme poverty for the people.
Then in 1978, Deng Xiaoping didn鈥檛 use the previous communist policies to rule. He allowed the people to farm their own land, he opened up trade for them, and he allowed private firms to prosper too. According to the World Bank, about 800 million people escaped extreme poverty when the market approach was implemented, which is said to be the largest poverty reduction in history. Yes, communist lovers, this happened when peasants could keep what they grew.
China today is an authoritarian system that uses a free market economy. A BIG lesson: Communism doesn鈥檛 work for the good of the people.
Another prime example of the horror of socialist policies with extremely close ties with communist ideologies is Venezuela. Chavez and Maduro nationalized everything with price controls, and money-printing. Reportedly, the GDP contracted approximately 70 to 80% from the 2010 era when Venezuela was at its peak economically.
For those who think they want socialism, which is a path to communism, this would be a good time to do some research.
