Reflecting unprecedented festive consumer spending across Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja, West Bengal’s hospitality sector recorded historical financial numbers across September and October:
🍽️ Turnover & Revenue Breakdown:
➤ Gross Business Turnover: Hotels and restaurants generated business worth ~₹1,000 Crore across September and October, jumping significantly from ₹650 Crore recorded last year.
➤ Record GST Collection: The state exchequer earned ₹100 Crore in GST revenue solely from hospitality dining and accommodations in these two festive months.
➤ Net Growth: Monthly business turnover surged by ₹350 Crore, resulting in an overall 35% year-on-year jump in GST collections.
🗓️ Peak Puja Days Revenue:
➤ Out of the total collections, ₹60 Crore in GST was raked in during the core festive days alone (Panchami to Dashami), with Nabami and Dashami driving peak restaurant turnovers.
➤ Notably, these official figures exclude liquor and alcohol sales handled via BEVCO, representing solely food, beverage, and hotel bookings.
