15-Year-Old Slashed With Machete During Robbery at Whitby Movie Theatre
A 15-year-old suffered serious injuries after being slashed with a machete during a robbery at a Whitby movie theatre early Sunday morning.
Durham Regional Police said officers responded to an armed person call at Landmark Cinemas, located at 75 Consumers Drive, at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Oct. 25.
Officers arrived and found the teen suffering from a significant laceration to his arm.
Investigators determined the victim had attended the theatre to meet a girl he knew through social media when he was approached by a group of youths who demanded his jacket.
When the teen refused to hand over his belongings, one of the suspects produced a machete and struck him in the arm. The group then assaulted the victim before stealing his jacket and cash.
Police and paramedics treated the teen at the scene before he was transported to a local hospital. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Investigators have identified four youths believed to be involved in the incident, including a 15-year-old boy from Oshawa, a 17-year-old boy from Pickering, a 13-year-old girl from Oshawa and an unidentified male.
Arrest warrants have been issued for two of the four suspects, police said.
