Taste-obsessed human Building with AI. Writing about creativity, judgment & growth. Alum @johnshopkins

AI is creating two kinds of builders: those who can build, and those who care. @lil_dill's talk has been stuck in my head all weekend. We all know AI makes it so easy to build and to ship. But if everyone can build, what makes something worth building? I keep coming back to one word: care. When everyone can build, caring becomes the differentiator. So what do builders who care do differently? 1. Own your perspective. If you don’t have a point of view, AI will give you one. Own your perspective before AI does. 2. Encode your standards. Don’t just prompt for good work. Build systems that carry your intent. Teach AI what good means to you. 3. Refuse to confuse done with good. “We have to unlearn that built means done, and that done means good.” Be the editor. Sweat the details. Make the whole thing coherent. 4. Push the ceiling, not just the speed. AI lowers the cost to create. So spend some of that savings on exploration, creativity, and making something truly special. AI can amplify your POV, your standards, your craft, and your ambition. But you still have to bring them. That’s what care looks like.
Software is increasingly treated as disposable in the AI era. Yet we spend half our waking lives looking at screens! We don’t want to spend that time with zombie products—monotonous, vacant, and uncared for. We want products with soul. 💜 I go deep on this in my talk from @lennysan's Summit: youtube.com/watch?v=GLvFTMtw…

Tastemaxxing 🎹 Saw this vinyl today and instantly remembered listening to The Legend of 1900 back in middle school. Some music really stays with you🥹 What song takes you straight back to your younger days?

People call it a city of miracles, high-tech, and the future. But I want to explore another side of Shenzhen. Places with soul, character, and taste. Any beautifully curated bookstores, indie bookshops, or hidden creative gems you'd recommend?

I mapped the regional distribution of Cosign's Top 100 high-taste companies. North America dominates. Asia-Pacific is barely represented. Curious why there are no mainland China-based companies on the list? 👀 cosign.co/questions/highest-…

You call this beautiful? A storm can create wonder and destruction in the same breath. What if beauty was never meant to be harmless?

Everyone's asking what the next moat in AI is. At Fotografiska Shenzhen, this photo reminded me: understanding the future starts with observing the present. Maybe the real moat isn't intelligence, but noticing what others overlook. What caught your attention today?

For anyone feeling a little lost lately, this one's for you. Steve Jobs once said: “If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” Maybe not knowing where you're going doesn't mean you're going nowhere. Keep looking.

You are what you feed. You are what you prompt. You are what you narrate.

When was the last time you went to a museum and found someone else’s taste that felt strangely like your own? I had that feeling at the Hong Kong Museum of Art recently. “Art is all a matter of personality.” — Marcel Duchamp It got me thinking about creation in the AI era: Technique shapes what you can make. But your experiences, feelings, personality, and philosophy shape what only YOU would make. Maybe that’s where taste begins. What caught your attention this week?

This feels very Hong Kong. Went to the Mid-Autumn Festival lantern display at Victoria Park tonight. One of my favorite parts was seeing lanterns from different cultures sharing the same street. A Chinese tradition, surrounded by cultures from around the world. Maybe a city’s taste is in what it chooses to bring together.
