Dr. Peter Gregory Obi's Many Inconsistencies In Ongoing Presidential Bid
1. On Statistics and Figures: Obi built his campaign on being the "statistics candidate" who thought he was running to become the Statistician of the Federation, but was repeatedly fact-checked for reeling out contradictory and unverified figures on live TV — from poverty rates, to unemployment, to China's capital, to Egypt's power generation. The numbers changed from one interview to another.
2. On Anambra Record: He claimed he left Anambra with huge savings and no debt, and that he never borrowed. Records from the Debt Management Office and his successor, Willie Obiano, showed Anambra did have debts and that much of the claimed savings were tied funds and donor monies, not liquid savings.
3. On Subsidy Removal: He had severally declared during his presidential bid and after that subsidy removal was the best way to go and that he would remove it immediately. However, in October 2026 he changed his position and began criticizing subsidy removal, contradicting his long-held stance.
4. On Privatization: He condemned the privatization of public assets as cronyism, yet he defended his chairmanship of NEXT International and his role in Anambra's privatization deals as transparent.
5. On Party Ideology: He left APGA for PDP, called PDP a structure of criminality, left PDP in May 2022 calling it corrupt and undemocratic, joined Labour Party calling it the party of workers and ideology, joined ADC, ran away before primaries, then allied with PDP figures for his campaign structure while in NDC.
6. On Consumption to Production: His central mantra was moving Nigeria from consumption to production, yet his own wealth and import business "NEXT" was built on massive importation of consumables, including alcohol and foreign goods.
