Literature Teacher sharing info/news on Rapid Extinction & Earth Systems Collapse. Urging radical, systemic, political-economic change to try to limit the doom.

Remember: 1. The oceans are being killed. 2. Forests will soon be gone. 3. Fertile soil is disappearing. 4. Megafauna risk extermination. 5. Insects are vanishing. 6. Climate chaos is inevitable. 7. Extinction is now. 8. Plastic is in our blood. None of this is front page news.

ICYMI: Warming is now hitting ~1.7°C. Even if the rate drops to 0.1°C/decade for the rest of the century we'll still hit all remaining major tipping points. Capitalism has murdered us all.

icymi: August 2026 world’s hottest month on record as we already start to leave behind 1.45-1.55°C and move into a new 1.65-1.75°C world with 1.85-1.95°C looming

1.9-2°C OF GLOBAL WARMING IS NO LONGER AVOIDABLE.. It's likely (75% chance) that the 2026-30 five-year mean will exceed 1.5°C, and that one or more years will exceed 1.6-1.7 or 1.8-1.9 in the next ~12-48 months. Even 2°C before 2030 is possible. Anticipate 2.8-4°C by 2050-80.

RAPID MASS EXTINCTION IN THE CAPITALIST ERA DUE TO ECONOMIC GROWTH AND THE RACE FOR PROFIT: habitat and wildlife destruction, pollution, war, and... broadly unsurvivable warming of 2.8-3.2°C and rising by the 2040s-90s (expected by majority of scientists)

icymi: "surpassing the 1.5°C threshold will represent a threat to global food security"
Q and A: 1. Do over 90% of climate scientists expect 1.7 - 2°C by 2042? YES 2. Will 1.7 - 2°C of global warming threaten to wreck basic crops? YES 3. Do over 90% of climate scientists expect temperatures high enough to be crop-wrecking to hit by '2038 or so'? YES THREAD 1/

I got hammered for "2038 or so" despite it being common knowledge that moving from 1.5 towards 2°C would put all key crops at severe risk. In the months and years that followed, CB confirmed that 2°C by 2038-50 was indeed the fear. Now 90% of scientists anticipate 2°C by 2032-46.
Did you know that over 90% of climate scientists think global warming will be so severe by 2038 or so that we'll hit temperatures shown to be hot enough to wreck the basic crops humanity relies upon for decent survival, or do you get your information from ad-dependent newspapers?

We knew the rate of warming was at least 0.25-0.3°C/decade. Turns out scientists now think it's more like 0.35-0.4°C or more.
Replying to @ClimateBen
The vast majority of climate scientists would expect 1.7 - 2°C (or more, but not less) by ~2040. I'd say this isn't a terribly controversial statement as temp rise seems to be 0.25- 0.3C per decade, and we're at 1.2/1.3/1.4C depending on the baseline. 2/

Although emissions in the IPCC's new highest scenario are lower than in the previous version, this doesn't mean that high-impact climate change has been avoided. Temperature increase could still easily exceed 4°C and in the worst case is now expected by the ~2130s/40s (not 2100).
SSP5-8.5 still doing the rounds despite being disavowed by the IPCC.

Scientists virtually all anticipate global warming of 2°C (and rising to 2.5-5°C) by around 2038-39. We're in an age of massive and unstoppable warming, with emissions at record high extremes, habitat & wildlife destruction ongoing, and Earth's ocean and land carbon sinks ailing.

EXTINCTION: Earth's species to suffer 1.6-2.4°C or more through the 2030s-90s • global warming will reach at least 1.8°C under even the most optimistic future and the average global temperature could only be returned to 1.5C this century if warming stays below ~1.8C (UN report)
URGENT.. There must be some mistake? We're currently hitting 1.41-1.8°C of global warming, and yet the IPCC and UN claim 1.81-1.9°C may still be avoided. That's obviously misleading/wrong. Which journalists will report on this?
