I remember you being the only other person I knew that listened to him when I first got into him early 80s. Saw him for the first time last year. He was brilliant.

It largely went under the radar that Mike Costello retired at the end of the Commonwealth Games, finishing his celebrated career covering amateur boxing and, typically enough, without wanting any of the attention he could have courted. He also spoke, in @BoxingNewsED

Smashing!! My mother Maureen was from Lisburn and held no one in higher regard than Barry McGuigan and Neil Diamond respectively. I truly believe even Elvis came third

Paul Carrack is one of the loveliest guys in the music industry and he is without doubt one thee most talented. He’s a fabulous song writer and for me he has one of thee greatest singing voices in popular music, the absolute crème de la crème 👏👏👏

No Steve, Ryan is a very good talent and I think he can solidify his reputation as a good World Champion over the next few years but it’s important to remember there are not many easy fights at the top of the Welterweight tree BUT he can become an established World Champion.

I think Benn will have success over his career - similar to Pitbull Cruz - just a solid fighter. I have less hope for Garcia who seems to rely on that hectic punch to win. - Benn got caught. Romero did not .

I don’t doubt that you are sincere but like I said earlier if Benn wants to continue with his boxing career he’s got to take a step back and choose if he’s going to box at Welter or Super Welter, get back in the ring soon and start rebuilding.
Replying to @ClonesCyclone
He could bumble along for years at national level. But it does seem he hasn't got the wares to achieve elite international grade. And I don't say this with any delight.

There is no doubt, if Conor wants to regroup properly he’s going to have to take a step back and start rebuilding, fighting lesser opponents at 154lbs and start gaining experience and get settled into the Super Welterweight division and take it from there.
Great observations Barry, agree Conor was weight drained. Bentley is too much for him, he needs to slow, regroup and build a solid foundation. I worry though, new promoters whether them and his ego chase other big fights in which he becomes cannon fodder.

Yes the drugs issue has left an indelible mark.
Replying to @ClonesCyclone
Understandably a good money earner although it can be argued certain doors were opened for him. Decent boxer but not world class. You could argue him and Eubank jr are only good enough to fight for nationals. Doubts will always linger due to the drugs allegations

Correct in my experience, if you bust a gut to make weight your ability to soak up a shot is seriously diminished. I’ve seen it thousands of times.
Agreed on the weight, you can move up, but you can't go back down successfully against good competion. The prime example was Roy Jones, whose constitution betrayed him when he returned to 175lbs after beating Ruiz at HW. Spot on with him needing experience at the higher level too

In fairness Andy, Conor has a jab but he prefers to be aggressive and it’s only the very disciplined attacking fighters that can use an effective jab especially against a fighter that’s faster than you. However it’s thee most important punch to use when you’re up against speed.
Replying to @ClonesCyclone
He has no jab game over

Agreed he’s got to get some experience and test himself at domestic level before he goes back in with World class talent.
Replying to @ClonesCyclone
I don’t think he’s world class. He should test himself v the best domestic competition

Boxing fans, this week I’ve reflected on ConorBenn’s performance against RyanGarcia last time out. Read my column and give me your view on the fight ? There’s a whole bunch of questions for both fighters, what’s yours ?
