This house in Los Angeles is listed for $550,000. $550,000. And before anyone says “location, location, location,” this is in a very bad neighborhood with a long history of gang activity. I remember when half a million dollars bought you a beautiful house in a nice neighborhood. Now this is what $550K looks like in LA. How the hell are young people supposed to buy their first home? The housing market is absolutely insane.

Anything under a million is likely in a bad area. And you get a mayor who doesn't care if your neighborhood burns down.

Stop crying, there’s affordable states. People just wanna live in “trendy hip” neighborhoods.

The inflated cost of homes is designed for at least 2 nefarious reasons - enable the collection of higher taxes for the county and school bonds, and pushing the renter agenda. You will own nothing and be happy.

Remove 30 - 50 million illegals and watch how fast rent and home prices go down when inventory dramatically increases. Supply and Demand, but Nooooooooooooooo we need to help the world and import hordes of locusts

Young people need to get the hell out of Los Angeles. There are many places in this country where you can get 100x that house for that kind of money. You can get a beautiful home in my semi rural area, 30 mins from 4 big cities, for about $300K which includes a not "postage size" piece of property.

Tip number one. Don't buy a house in California. There are still plenty of states where real estate is affordable. The mean price of a home in West Virginia is around 180k. You can get starter/smaller homes for less, or a really nice home for 550k

Infinite Illegals raises Demand. Raised Demand Raises Costs. Of EVERYTHING. Imagine That.

Because rates we ultra low for an extended period and you think dropping them will make houses affordable. It won't prices will be bid up to more than offset any savings from rates.

You can have a custom built new home in Orlando for 450K. And that's three times what I paid in 2014.

Starter homes are not always gorgeous nor are they always in nice neighborhoods. They usually need work and are in marginal neighborhoods. They are also not in LA.

That can hold tons of illegals paying cash to stay there with the main tenant getting it with section 8 (legally---wink, wink). This house is a money printer for the owner.

If we deported all the illegal aliens in LA, housing prices, as well as food and healthcare prices would plummet. How in the hell can they buy their first home? Deport! Deport! Deport!

people who choose to pay that much money for a shit house in a shit neighborhood full of blacks and drug users, deserve what they get. 500k will buy you a nice house in decent areas.. LA ain't one of them.

Most likely a typo, it's probably $5,500, cos nobody in their right mind would pay more than that.

The lot is worth $550k. Developer will cram a multistory apartment on the property.

This post is misleading. There’s no information regarding the lot size, zoning, where it’s located. There are empty lots in some areas going for $2 million.

That's California. I got a nice big 3 bedroom 2 bath ranch. With a big yard on a culdesac . $300K. Can't use California as a comparison for the pricing on anything. Everything in California is twice as expensive as it is here in Az.

What would keep this hypothetical young person stay in LA at all? Many of my own ancestors, and myself too have moved around the country for better opportunities

The answer is, not everyone deserves a home in LA. It’s obvious they need to move elsewhere to buy their first home, same with bay area . This is what the market is telling you, people are paying this

Well, they can start by leaving California and wherever they go, not voting for the idiotic policies that caused it to happen at their first home.

Illegals will put 3 families in that house and not even think it's weird. Americans tend not to want to share a house. California has more illegals than any other state, it's why they have the highest poverty rates and the highest cost of living.

A good start is to get institutional investors tf out of the business of buying up houses. The current cap of 250 houses from your daddy is pussy shit, especially since nothing stops these companies from gobbling up more through shell companies
