25 years ago today, nearly 3,000 lives were lost in the September 11 attacks. Among them was one of our own — U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Otis Vincent Tolbert.
A 1980 Lemoore High grad, Tolbert earned a football scholarship to Fresno State and became a standout defensive end for the Bulldogs from 1980–83, leading the team with 6 sacks his senior season.
Tolbert graduated from Fresno State and followed his Father’s footsteps into the U.S. Navy. Commissioned as an officer in 1989, he served in support of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Southern Watch before transitioning into Naval Intelligence.
He was eventually hand-picked for the Chief of Naval Operations Intelligence Plot staff at the Pentagon, where he served as Assistant Officer in Charge.
On September 11, 2001, Lt. Cmdr. Tolbert was killed when American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.
A Bulldog. A husband and a Father of 3. A Naval officer. An American hero.
Never forget Lt. Cmdr. Otis Vincent Tolbert. 🇺🇸
