With the International Token Web Conference coming up in just a few hours, including my presentation on "7 Miles from Sydney and a thousand miles from care: The Port Jackson and Manly Steamship Company Tokens", I thought I'd a) give it a plug #SaturdayNightCoinShow 1/n
You should definitely come to the International Token Web Conference - someone who may be known to the @CoinOfNote account will be presenting a lecture on the "The Port Jackson and Manly Steamship Company Tokens"

The newsletter is very late this fortnight, but I'm about to board a long flight home, so it will be even later. In the meantime, can you guess this tricky small coin?
Let us know, and don't forget to sign up for the newsletter to find out the answer! coinofnote.com/newsletter/
ALT A small irregular-round hammered brass / bronze coin, with lines, crescents and a shape like a lightning bolt in the centre.
Ah well, maybe it will sit there for ten years and then I'll find a book on all the varieties which will have a picture of mine and a three page explanation, who knows!
Hi. Unfortunately I've got nothing more to add, as my info was from Numista and a general search. Where Numista talks about varieties, I did see a page for one on sale (since sold) that states it was silver not copper, poss an earlier type? ma-shops.co.uk/podlaski/item…
Yes there seem to be a few variants. Most of the ones on Numista are listed as copper with a few silver and one brass. Mine is definitely a yellow metal, brass or bronze
Hope your flight was good and uneventful. Saw this post earlier and see it still doesn't have any guesses yet, so I'll go with Bhutan. 1/2 Rupee. I believe these were made of copper. Cheers.
Hey now that I've written up the post on the coin, and just working on the newsletter.... Do you have ANY information about the design on the coin? Numista, NGC, etc have nothing - except a couple of notes on specific variants, but nothing on the overall design?
Can you guess the Mystery Coin? #WhatIsIt? Tell us! It's a bronze coloured coin. "1" between two ... towers?, "Kobo" below.
Don't forget to subscribe to the fortnightly newsletter to find out the answer (& next #MysteryCoin first! coinofnote.com/newsletter/#Numismatics#Coins

An interesting pieces in this week's E-Sylum about how ancient Roman lead pollution can be tied to coins: coinbooks.org/v28/esylum_v28… - It is (or was) terrible for the Romans, but fascinating to see how things like this can be traced back.

This is an ad & you could make one cheaper, but I do like the idea - imagine a penny set, each with a picture of something from that year. Have you ever done or seen anything similar?

It is! They come in all shapes and values - I meant to add a photo of a few of them though I couldn't find a lot about the various values or prices though, which is why I didn't say a lot about it in the post (which meant it ended up being more about the ferries than the tokens!)
I need to work on the next newsletter soon, but first, a reminder about this fortnight's #MysteryCoin - it is a small round silver-coloured coin with "50" in a striped square, CENTAVOS below & "50" in small braille dots below that. Where / when might it be from? #Numismatics

I always liked this design. Minted from 1856 to 1858. This specimen is well worn. Higher grade specimens are simple but beautiful. Always check for the 1857 Doubled Eye variety! I have one. Very cool variety. @Arrowheadbroken

I understand. The Richard Snow book on Flying Eagles and Indian Head Cents is a good reference. There is also a good recorded online session he gave on money.org.
Thank you - I added a little bit to the bottom of my post on this coin with links to those references (I couldn't find the specific video but money.org has a lot of resources for people in any case) - and a credit to you for them :) coinofnote.com/1857-usa-cent…
