🇺🇸 The Duke of Edinburgh has visited the United States of America to celebrate the relationship between the US and the UK, with a particular focus on shared interests around youth empowerment and opportunity, and the arts. 📍 In New York, The Duke joined representatives from the city’s cultural sector at the Metropolitan Opera. 📍 In Baltimore, HRH visited Western High School - the oldest all-girls public high school in the US - as they become a new Duke of Edinburgh International Award partner school. 📍While in Washington DC, in recognition of the year of America 250 celebrations, The Duke of Edinburgh visited Mount Vernon to tour the new education centre, meet supporters and historians and lay a wreath at the tomb of George Washington. Later, The Duke joined guests from the arts, heritage and education sectors at the British Ambassador’s residence for The King’s Birthday Party.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Band of the Coldstream Guards performed the US National Anthem at Buckingham Palace today, mirroring the historic gesture made by the UK in 2001. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 With 11,000 US personnel stationed here in the UK and 900 of our own deployed stateside, our bilateral alliance remains the foundation of Euro-Atlantic security. We remember all those killed 25 years ago today. #NeverForget

25 years ago, nearly 3,000 people from over 90 countries were killed in the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. Today, we stand with the United States and the world in remembering the victims We must do everything we can to stop it happening again.
