Hochul's de-facto dictatorship over the MTA is why it's better run than any other American transit agency. Most agencies are run by a labyrinth of committees, agencies, counties, and cities, which slows progress to a trickle. See: every transit agency in California.
Kathy Hochul is the first governor from upstate NY in about a century. She might also be New York City's biggest transit supporter in decades. nytimes.com/2026/10/28/nyreg…

A great example is the IBX, which Hochul likely singlehandedly got started. NYC won't have to wait for another decade of studies, a ballot proposition, and 6 committee votes, like would be needed in LA or SF. The smoke-filled rooms in Albany don't need external approval.

new breakup excuse dropped
I’d been dating an MTA man off & on over a period of like 6 years. We basically stopped seeing each other bc of Congestion Pricing. He already pays it plus bridge tolls to get from his home in East NY to the depot in Harlem where he works. Coming to visit me inside the zone a few times per week as well, not to mention driving for our formerly frequent weekend getaways to AC became a hardship & no way he’d ever let me pay instead

One race I think people are overestimating Republicans on is Nebraska. Osborn lost by 6 in 2020, it's surprising that his chances of winning hover around 30%.

That said, his value to democrats is debatable. He's not going to vote with dems on plenty of things and has said he won't caucus with either party.

Personally id like to see it killed or reduced to ≤55 seats. The status quo where neither party can pass legislation without a landslide victory that polarization has rendered near-impossible, is silly.

For dems to get a fillibuster-proof senate they'd need to win every competitive seat 2026 and 2028 (NC,WI,IA). Possible, but very very unlikely. If democrats (or the GOP) want to do anything other than taxes they'll need to break the filibuster.
If Democrats can win 53 seats, they'll be virtually guaranteed a senate majority until 2030.

@VoteHub rates the chances of this at 45%.

Even with 51 or 52 though, if Democrats won the presidency/house in 2028 they'd still have a good shot at retaining the senate with even a 2020-style poor performance downballot. Would mean the first real shot at dems writing bills since 2009
