Jaksani Naganna Bavi in Lingampet, Kamareddy, is an 18th-century
stepwell. It once supplied drinking water and irrigation to the
village. It is now cleaned, restored and holding water again.
🎶 This week its arches and steps came alive with an all-night folk
song shoot. Scores of artists performed under lantern light, with
strict care for the structure.
✨ The site is run by women from local Self Help Groups. They
manage ticketing, cleaning and day-to-day upkeep, and earn a steady
livelihood close to home.
♻️ Visitor and videography tickets now pay for wages, water lines,
motor repairs, shade nets and regular sanitation. The site sustains
itself, with no extra burden on the exchequer.
💧 Stepwells like this conserve rainwater, recharge
groundwater and can serve communities once again.
