For anyone aspiring to make a living from art commissions, you need to know it's never consistent. Some months I make $4000, some others I make $100. Clients come and go, sometimes you have opportunities, and sometimes you don't. You also have to complete ongoing commissions before taking new ones, so it really depends on how fast you work and how good you are at marketing yourself. Even if you've cleared all your commissions, nothing guarantees you'll find new clients to get money next month. Sadly we also have to rely on socials for visibility, so that too makes it i consistent and hard to predict. If the right person sees your post at the right time, hooray, but it doesn't always work that way especially when you just get started. Being a freelance artist can be really harsh, but on the other hand, it has great advantages that you'd never find in ANY other job. I love my job so much, and I wouldn't trade it for a corpo job for anything in the world.
