On Tuesday 15 September, we'll hold our first evidence session with @kirstyjmcneill since her appointment as International Development Minister. Alongside senior FCDO officials, we'll question her on her priorities as aid falls to 0.3% of Gross National Income.

Our Chair @SarahChampionMP welcomes the Foreign Secretary's statement in the House of Commons today, including the announcement of new measures restricting trade in goods from illegal Israeli settlements.
“The Foreign Secretary must continue to press the Israeli Government to allow journalists and parliamentarians into Gaza. The continued denial of access to independent observers is unacceptable, particularly when the scale of the humanitarian crisis and potential war crimes makes scrutiny more important than ever. The UK must also do more to support the Palestinian Authority to ensure it can provide effective government and services to the Palestinian people. A viable Palestinian Authority will be essential to any credible pathway towards a Palestinian state and a lasting political settlement.” - Sarah Champion, Chair

Our Chair @SarahChampionMP has welcomed a £400m Government investment for the Tropical Forest Forever Facility, but has raised concerns over how the commitment is being funded. Her response follows a letter from the Energy Security Minister today.
“The Government’s investment of £400m in the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) is both welcome and long overdue. Investing in the TFFF, which aims to protect and preserve critical tropical ecosystems, clearly aligns with the UK’s objectives as well as supporting our trade relationships and the global consensus on climate action. However, the UK’s investment is not in the same league as some of our international counterparts and is substantially smaller than those of Norway and Germany, who have announced investments of $1 billion or more over 10 years.” - Sarah Champion, Committee Chair.

Whilst crucial to the UK’s development offering, we are yet to be convinced that funding to multilateral organisations, the replacement of bilateral ODA with expertise, or the mobilising of private finance, fully makes up for the impact and flexibility being lost by shrinking bilateral budgets."
