Alongside the folios, there are sets of playsheets for each series that are pre-filled with all the character info, and feature the art as well.
Trying to make it easy for folks to pick a character and get the game rolling.
ALT A character playbook for Girl by Moonlight, pre-filled with character info and art. This one depicts Eve, from 'In a Maze of Dreams'.
The folios are full colour, nicely printed, reusable little booklets. I wanted to have something that was easy to throw on to the table and get folks excited and engaged right away.
You can flip through these little guys and get a sense of what you're in for in each series
ALT The character details for 'On a Sea of Stars'. The pages pictured feature Van, a heartbroken pilot who is caught between her duty and her friendships, and Surt, a pilot who has returned from space to find humanity in a hopeless situation.
ALT Four friends are sitting around a table playing a role playing game. One is excitedly talking to the others, while another consults their notes. The room is lived in and cozy, there are cats.
Also, idk if you have seen the art but it's very good!
ALT A young and optimistic looking black man in a wheelchair, with a flight helmet in his lap. The background is a cool robot, it's big and bulky and sort of round, with a small head inside a cool sort of glass bubble thing.
ALT A street artist poses against a mural she has painted. She has cool sneakers, and a sporty jacket on, and she's contemplating her mural with a troubled look in her eyes. The mural is of her heroic alter-ego, a masked figure with a swoopy cape and a rapier that's styled to look like a quill pen.
ALT A haunted looking young man holding a faded photograph against his chest. His clothes are threadbare, and worn out. He's looking to the side, like he's considering some terrible betrayal, very suspicious.
I've been having so much fun exploring Manifold Garden.
It's absolutely gorgeous, I need to get some good photos of all the cool recursive stuff in the environments...
Got through 15 cards for my Champ class for Slay the Spire.
Still pretty basic stuff at this point, but I'm enjoying the process, if nothing else.
These all need art and playtesting, now.
Since I wasn't up for it yesterday, I'll be rambling about GBM today instead.
Let's talk about the 'In a Maze of Dreams' playset.
It's about dream travelers unraveling a multifarious conspiracy by entering the dreams of the conspirators.
Lets talk about Engines in Girl By Moonlight. Specifically, their huge emotional landscapes.
ALT The engines likely cannot communicate directly, but their emotions are an immense weight that the protagonists must bear. The engines are not simply machines that do exactly as the pilots direct them to. Often they must be convinced or cajoled to act at all, or their impulses drive them to contrary actions.
So now we're talking about some aesthetics and themes for the protagonists and their powers.
transcendence here should feel exhilarating, like suddenly you could do anything, or be anything, that you could imagine.
Normally at this point the protagonists would select roles for their characters, but it's just me so I'm gonna skip that step. Which means we're onto the rest of the protagonist stuff.
So now we're talking about the mundane world.
I'm going to pick 'an ancient city' and 'class struggle'
I'm not entirely sure how they fit in yet, so I'm just gonna leave it at that for now, and see if things click further along.
So the first choice to make is 'The Nature of the Darkness'.
I'm picking 'An eternity of pain'.
I want to characterize this pain as heartbreak, specifically. There's some deep and irreconcilable heartache to my darkness, that drives all its misdeeds.
'Give Monsters Human Hearts' from 'In the Kingdom of Dawn' tells us that adversaries in this series are fundamentally redeemable and, on some level, human.
Today I'm going to unpack "Hold on, but lightly" (pictured below)
Where last week's "reveal your inner world" wants to permit the characters to be vulnerable, this one asks something similar of us as players.
