Researchers Warn Older Americans May Be More Vulnerable to Social Media Addiction Than Younger Users. A 2026 study published in the European Journal of Ageing surveyed 529 adults ages 60 to 89 and found that heavier social media use was associated with poorer social cognition. Problematic use was also linked to lower cognitive functioning, particularly among adults 65 and older. The researchers found an upside, too: social media use was associated with less loneliness when it helped people feel more supported and connected. (Via @nypost)
