Tierra Whack is such an inventive visual stylist with so many bright art-pop ideas that it can be easy to overlook the fact that she’s got serious bars. That’ll be a lot harder after hearing her impressive new mixtape ‘WHACK’S MUSEUM,’ which she calls her “first true rap project.”
Tierra Whack broke through with her 15-minute visual album ‘Whack World’ in 2018, then refined its explosive expressionism on her 2024 major label debut ‘WORLD WIDE WHACK.’ On ‘WHACK’S MUSEUM,’ out today, the Philly artist does something different.
She teased the mixtape with the Conductor Williams-produced single “Wax Paper,” a boom-bap clinic that sets the tone for the entire project. The tape is rooted in the classic East Coast neck-snap sound, but Whack doesn’t merely adapt to it — she thrives in it.
