So, The Odyssey. Lol. It’s good, maybe Nolan’s best, and not even slightly “woke.” The right-wing hysteria is amazingly detached from reality. It’s a relentlessly masculine film, visually similar to Troy (2004) at times, but starker and bleaker, less flamboyant and less feminist. Circe, Calypso, Charybdis etc. are classic Nolan female chaos dragons. Penelope’s weaving is not dwelled upon. The costumes look good. The soundscape is relentless roaring and clanging that rings in your ears when you wander out of the theater feeling slightly overwhelmed by three hours of torchlit Mycenaean brutality. The brief presence of several black actors and one transsexual feels utterly natural in a mythological setting of seafaring travelers, and the fits of neurosis over it are extremely embarrassing for champions of the Master Race, whose ideological fanaticism and general hostility to aesthetic values has now exceeded the wildest excesses of left-wing media critique.

...How can anyone in their right mind say the costume looks good when it's not but plain grey plate, drab dirty brown leather and ugly 3d-printed black plastic How can anyone say that left is in any way comparable to the right?

I also would prefer the drag queen version but it’s not really Nolan’s style

Literally stopped reading at “the costumes looked good”. If you’ll lie about one thing you’ll lie about the rest.

My favorite "woke" or queer sword‑and‑sandals film is Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004), which was IMO Oliver Stone's last masterpiece.

All the clips going around are not relentless or masculine. The Thing or 12 Angry Men now those are relentless masculine movies.

So you’re saying a bunch of Right Wing grifters made up something to get mad about before even seeing the movie And now that the movie is out and is almost universally well received it shows how utterly ridiculous and pathetic their “outrage” was? I am shocked

The culture warriors were so preoccupied with casting they allowed Nolan to sneak in his real revisionary message, which is about what happens to a man and his culture when he commits atrocities in war.

Idk if Nolan is the reason why Circe is a “chaos dragon” lol, she’s a witch who turns men into pigs. He kinda deconstructs the predatory woman archetype a bit and implies that Circe sources her rage and power from the trauma a man or men have inflicted upon her. Idk how radical the “she’s a misandrist for a reason” angle is, but it’s a bit more nuanced than “she’s evil”. Also Charybdis is depicted as a natural whirlpool with no anthropomorphic attributes or backstory, so doesn’t make sense to lump her in with Nolan gender analysis Otherwise agree on all points lol

The movie has a transgender man playing a soldier and also pays homage to hip hop and makes references to xenophobia. It is woke. But being woke is a good thing. People who think it's a bad thing are idiots

This movie helps prove that a majority of the online backlash is from bots. The number of tickets sold in the U.S. alone are looking to be the highest of the year already. The back lash was artificially generated and tickets sold indicate that.

I do feel that for the right-wingers, anything short of The Birth of a Nation is considered "woke" nowadays.

Not woke except a woman is playing a man and they cast a black lady as Helen of Troy

If it's not woke, then how come a transgender man (woman) is playing one of Greece's fiercest warriors as a man?...You honestly believe the character Ellen is playing was meant to be a transgender man? Fun Fact: Transgenders didn't exist in Greek times. So, why they cast one? Let me guess, "inclusion and diversity" because it's 2026 right?.....RIGHT?

If I had to criticize aanything it would be the bland ass outfit designs. Greek culture has so much personality in its fashion and the end result is boring.

Saw it today. It was boring , the acting was bad and the soundtrack was lifeless. They butchered the source material as well. 1/10

"Not even slightly woke" 🤣🤣. You know it's woke before you even watch it. If you disagree then you need to re-examine your definition of woke
