Sales guy turned email marketer & writer | 12 years in sales + 5 years writing email campaigns | I write short, profitable emails for ecom brands + more.
A little over a year ago I had:
- No website
- No business
- No newsletter
- No followers (basically)
Now I have all of the above. (1,300+ followers on LI)
And I built all of these single handedly.
If you're starting from zero, don't be afraid.
Just start.
E-com stores owners.
STOP discounting all the time, you don't have to.
This is a trap and a default setting for a lot of store owners.
You need to think what can your business offer that's different than your competition.
> do you have better technical advice
> do you offer free follow ups
> can you deliver faster
There's no one size fits all approach to this because it depends on the type of business.
But the point is that you get out of the mindset of discounting.
I'm not saying don't do it, you have to ocassionally.
Just don't have it as your default when sales are down.
The baseless claims made on the internet today are wild.
Between LinkedIn and Twitter, you'd think everyone was running multi million dollar businesses.
Jimmy with his 200 Twitter followers says he's doing doing 100k/month for the last 6 months from sending 5 DMs a day.
I've been around too long, most of these people are talking rubbish.
I made stupid claims like this starting out thinking it was the way.
But it's not.
I'm all for getting attention and using it.
There are just better ways than making absurd claims.
Choose wisely.
I love old school stuff like CDs, cassette tape and vinyl.
(crazy to think CDs are old school)
But in a world of fast moving technology, you have to love new and old.
We've got so much new stuff nowadays, you just have to embrace it.
What you take for granted may be an important piece of info that someone needs.
Here's an example.
I plug my newsletter on here regularly.
And I know I can't just post a link out as a normal post because the algo won't push it.
So the fix is to link it in my comments.
This is something I take for granted.
But it may be the difference between someone signing a client or not if they're not in the know.
For anyone starting out on their marketing/copywriting journey, just bookmark all these posts from Chase.
I guarantee you'll get better at your craft by using his advice.
I wonder did Elon make the Twitter algo hard to crack purely to separate the strong from the weak.
It's like he's testing us to see who's tough enough to make it to the top.
And I'm okay with that.
You earn and learn nothing without hardship.
Build an email list.
If you lose your Twitter account tomorrow and have no other form of broadcasting, you're back to square one.
An email list can never be taken from you.
Worst case scenario, you write the emails you've gathered on a piece of paper.
