WOW LIFE AS A QUANTUM PROCESS. NEW PAPER. A QUIET FREQUENCY THAT COULD CHANGE HOW WE SEE LIFE Something extraordinary has been heard inside living cells. Deep within mitochondria—the tiny, folded engines that power every heartbeat, every thought, every movement—researchers have detected a vibration ringing at 71 trillion cycles per second. The signal appears only while those engines remain intact and alive. Break the architecture and the note falls silent. That single peak, reported in a 2026 preprint by Yu Yang, Zhenglong Gu and Bo Song, is more than a spectroscopic curiosity. It is a invitation. It suggests that the most important organelles in biology may be doing something subtler and more elegant than classical chemistry alone can explain. The team used infrared light to listen to living human cells, fresh tissues, and carefully isolated mitochondria. Again and again they found the same unexplained 71 THz feature. Their model is beautiful in its simplicity: light trapped among the cristae couples to the collective dance of lipid CH₂ bonds, creating a polariton—a hybrid state that is part light, part matter. The familiar 87 THz vibration splits. One of the new notes is the 71 THz signal we can now hear. The living mitochondrion, in this picture, is not just a factory. It is a resonator. When the researchers gently shone light at that same frequency onto cultured cells, ATP production rose by about ten percent. A nearby control frequency did nothing. Frequency mattered. The cell’s energy currency responded as if someone had found a hidden dial. This is still early science. The paper awaits peer review and independent confirmation. That is how good science works. Yet the possibility already feels generous. If mitochondria can host a light-matter quantum state that we can address from outside, then energy metabolism is no longer a closed chemical book. Just released @YourOwnAI 0.8.0. This feels like such a special release, as the starting point 0.7.2 was already pretty solid. There's a maturity in 0.8.0 that makes me feel really proud. There's so much in it, I almost don't know where to start. I use Your Own AI for coding a lot so in this release we went to town on the UI and UX for agentic projects. A complete overhaul. Switch back and forth between Simple and Detailed mode by clicking the toggle or Cntrl O shortcut. In 0.7.x we ramped up dragging in documents, books, etc to fulfil our goals from the @McConaughey on Rogan vid. But with 0.8.0 we stepped it right up. If you move a document in your file structure, it will notice it's missing and you can either relink or search for it. If you've ever used Da Vinci Resolve for Video its designed just like its media management. Another thing you won't see but if you have a lower spec computer then you'll feel is the dynamic headroom work. The models run better when you don't use up all of the system resources, so we make sure we keep some resources for your computer to run. If you open up new browser tabs, it will automatically adjust the size of the headroom. Possibly one of the benefits of developing on a low spec machine myself is that I know what it's like to not have huge GPU. That reminds me, we made Your Own AI work local Offline models on a 2014 Mac in this release. Not too quickly, but offline first working on a 2014 machine is pretty great. There are new Offline models, Hemmingway 1 and The Drummers Skyfall 31B. Both are awesome for writing. The new OpenAI and Grok Online models are in it too. Also @obsdmd & @logseq notes integration. Every distributed system humans have built drifts, over time, back toward a centre. Blockchain governance concentrates into plutocracy as capital concentrates. Mastodon develops admin hierarchies. Wikipedia evolves an entrenched editor class. Open source defaults to benevolent dictators. The internet’s protocols are decentralised at the wire level; the application layer that sits on top is owned by five companies. Distributed systems hold their distributed form only while their design actively resists re-centralisation — at every layer, all the time. The counter-pressure is real, and it has several sources at once. Centralisation is what humans default to when coordination gets hard, because we each experience ourselves as the centre of our own world — all of our experience lands in the self, and the self builds the way each of us think. We build dependencies on ourselves. We make ourselves the point things flow through. And centralisation is the easiest way to make a system legible — to deliver clarity about who’s responsible, where the bottleneck is, who to ask. At scale, it’s also the fastest. The design problem is not whether to centralise. It’s what you have to build to deliver legibility, accountability, and speed without a centre. Crypto’s failure was that it assumed decentralisation at one layer would propagate to the others. It didn’t. It can’t. The pull is too constant, the alternative interfaces too convenient, the capital too impatient. The architecture that resists re-centralisation has to be designed at every layer at once — protocol, application, governance, economics — or capital and convenience fills the gaps with centralised solutions."
