I'm excited to post our short film Diakonia: The Watchers. I made this specifically for the Mount Gretna International Film Festival and to help promote @DiakoniaF . I'm proud to say that it won the PA Filmmaker award at the festival. I want to thank Ask4Noah - Real Estate Solutions for allowing me to shoot at the amazing bank building on Cumberland St. just before 8th. There's a story to this short that I debated sharing. If you made it this far then maybe you want to hear it. I set making Diakonia to the side while I made and put This Is Why I Believe through festivals. I moved projects because narrative film projects like Diakonia take a lot of resources which take money. I was able to do This Is Why I Believe with a skeleton crew and finance it myself. My hope was to use that as a springboard for Diakonia. I felt like doors would open enough that if nothing else happened I could at least do a really solid entry for the Mount Gretna International Film Festival this year. Last year's entry was a scene from Diakonia that I repurposed to enter. This year I wanted to write a proper short and shoot something really amazing that could compete not just in the Local Pa group but stand against the other entries. They showed some amazing pieces last year from all over the world. This Is Why I Believe has played in 12 festivals worldwide and it's been great but no new doors opened. The deadline for the festival was looming and I couldn't do what I planned. The resources were just not there. I do have some amazing people who would have helped for free but people's time is worth something and they deserve compensation and at this stage not paying people was just not something I was going to do. I decided that I was going to create a piece for the festival and if I couldn't do what I originally intended then I was going to go the other direction. I tracked down the location and wrote a script that I could make on my own, and by on my own, I mean by myself. I shot, performed, lit and did audio for the short. I was the only one on set and let me tell you, being in that old bank by yourself, at night or in the basement during the day was an act of bravery of which I did not always live up to. It's better when no one else is there to hear you scream like a girl. In the end I really liked how the short turned out. I'm proud of it. It's not what I wanted to make. It's not "cinematic" in some of the ways I was planning and hoping the original would be. But, despite setbacks, not having the doors open that I thought would open, despite the fact that I'm stubborn and didn't ask for help, I created a short film and it won the PA Filmmaker award. When people ask me about getting into film I always say that I make films because I'm too stupid to stop trying. Sometimes being stupid is rewarding. Now go watch the film and if you know me you can laugh at my hair and accent.

I was super excited to have Elizabeth Voight in for an interview. It's exciting to see someone from Lebanon chasing after big dreams, facing setbacks and pushing forward. She's proof that you're only limited by your own imagination and determination. Elizabeth grew up in Fredericksburg. She participated in the Lebanon Area Fair, became the first Lebanon Fair Queen to win the PA Fair Queen title. She went on to graduate from Penn State University. She competed twice for the @realmisspausa competition and was the first runner-up in 2023 & 2024!
