I attended a woman’s home tonight after a woman made contact with our charity foodbank.
She’s a single parent with three children and is struggling with depression. She had just £7 left on her gas and was £10 overdrawn on her electricity meter, with very little food in the house.
We topped up her gas and electricity and brought food. As we were leaving, she asked us to stay and talk. She wanted to feel seen. She wanted to feel heard.
We stayed, listened and talked about local support, including walking groups.
When she opened the door, she was quiet, upset and teary. After 25 minutes, she was smiling and seemed relieved.
We often hear people talk about kindness. It matters when we put it into action. Sometimes, listening is what someone needs most.
