I am a barrister specialising in crime and I am horrified at the destruction the Tories are wreaking on the criminal justice system

Newcastle, England
The strongest reason for not having a public execution is surely the fact that he intended to be a martyr. He will be achieving that with worldwide attention. Apart from the fact that it is barbaric of course.
I’ve seen more than one person lamenting the fact that Nidal Hasan will be executed by firing squad even tho he is paralyzed and can’t move from the chest down. Why is he paralyzed? Because he was shot by the MP’s who responded to the scene at which he walked in to a room full of unarmed people, fired more than 200 rounds, killing 13 people including a pregnant woman who begged for the life of her baby, and wounding a couple of dozen others—some of whom now have their own permanent disability. His paralysis is not a reason for him to escape justice. His paralysis is a result of his own evil murderous actions and makes him no less evil and no more deserving of the kind of mercy he denied to others. Now for the people who lament the fact that it will be live streamed. I could engage some of them who just think that such a thing should not be publicized and still respect them despite our disagreement. The people I will never ever respect are the ones who laughed at seeing the United Healthcare CEO assassinated, the ones who cheered when seeing Charlie Kirk’s neck explode, and the ones who rejoiced at seeing Donald Trump shot but who are distressed by the thought of a live streamed execution. Those people are almost as disgusting as the man who will be executed.

BREAKING: Renowned journalist Glenn Greenwald pens a viral takedown of Pete Hegseth's brutal announcement that the U.S.A. will now hold public executions. We're being dragged into a bad dystopian novel... "Not only has the US never televised public executions in its history, but not even the Nazi defendants sentenced to death at the Nuremberg trials had their executions televised (it was deemed violative of the human rights that post-WW2 institutions were trying to re-establish)," Greenwald, who's best known for helping to break the Edward Snowden surveillance story, wrote on X. "The most amazing part of this is that Nidal Hasan is paraplegic and close to 60. So this disgusting spectacle will involve rolling him out in a wheelchair, then live-streaming his body as it's pumped full of bullets," he continued. "When I and others pointed out last night that public executions are carried out only by the countries we're told are the most primitive and savage (Afghanistan, North Korea), MAGA enthusiasts replied that we were too weak," he added. "Pummeling an old guy in a wheelchair with bullets -- as a reality TV show -- seems like an odd and dubious definition of 'strength,' let alone an expression of the western values they endlessly claim they and they alone are trying to salvage." Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's announcement this week that Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter who killed 13 people and injured 32 others in 2009, will be publicly executed has been met with rapturous applause by the MAGA crowd. These so-called Christians are positively giddy about the prospect of watching a Muslim be killed on TV, seemingly oblivious that these kind of primitive displays make them identical to the Islamist radicals they so despise. ISIS broadcast execution videos to terrorize their enemies. Now, the Trump administration hopes to do the same. None of this is to say that Hasan deserves our affection or even sympathy. This mass murderer belongs in prison for the rest of his life. What we're saying is that killing him for public consumption and entertainment debases us as a nation, morally and spiritually. We can choose to be better than this. Please ❤️ and share if you oppose public executions!

Nigel Farage’s voting record as an MP has him 620th out of 654 MPs. He’s not sat for 24 hours total yet, never mind 24 hours a day
I don’t care if Parliament has to sit 24 hours a day. I will stop the boats in the first 100 days of a Reform government.

Daniel Thomas is a man with a significant criminal record who was filmed committing an offence whilst on bail. Bail in such a case would be unusual. He has then joined the 18,000 others in custody awaiting trial. His trial is scheduled to take place within custody time limits.

@Nigel_Farage has deleted this post from Sunday. Don’t suppose he’d like to be reminded of it; oh well.

Brexit supporter on TV, "We used to spend all winter in Spain but now the new Brussels rules stop us from doing that. They are using the 90 day laws to punish us because we voted to leave. Those laws are for foreigners not expats like us"

It’s the ultimate irony. Will Reform rely on the ECHR?
Ironically, the ECHR could rescue Reform if Labour create donation limits which are retroactive. Article 7 of the ECHR states: "You cannot be found guilty of a crime for any act or omission that was not a criminal offence under national or international law when it happened.

Billionaires don’t use the NHS, they go privately. They don’t use that state education system they go privately. Note that the majority of them have contempt for universities. They don’t want to pay tax to fund these things. £72m will ensure they don’t have to.

Apparently the new Reform mega donor Ben Delo is threatening to sue people who mention his previous conviction tied to money laundering. So best not keep sharing it.

The RNLI are in fact rounding up the people in the boats and handing them over to the proper authorities. What then happens to them is outside the control of the RNLI.
