About 70% of short-term holders' bitcoin sits in profit, per Glassnode, down from close to 100% in late September. Early October then brought some of the year's highest exchange inflows. Selling winners quickly is the disposition effect (Odean, 1998).

Kalshi's odds that the US Treasury buys bitcoin before 2028 touched 21% on $1,617 in volume, then traded at 11%. The order behind the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve bars open-market purchases. Anchoring (Tversky & Kahneman, 1974) works even when one small trade set the number.

US spot bitcoin ETFs took in about $110.3M on October 26 while spot ether ETFs lost $88.6M. BlackRock led both moves, IBIT in and ETHA out. Ether funds have now shed over $1.1B in October, their largest monthly withdrawal this year.

Grayscale Research puts bitcoin's one-year realized volatility at 43%, down from 81% five years ago and below its ten-year average of 64%. By that measure it swings less than 57% of S&P 500 stocks. Coinbase runs at about 70%. 1/3

Five years ago bitcoin's volatility was 81%. People judge risk by how easily examples come to mind, the availability heuristic (Tversky & Kahneman, 1973). Swings from that era are easier to recall than a quiet 43% year. 2/3

Grayscale's 43% volatility figure for bitcoin has two caveats. Grayscale sells bitcoin funds, and realized volatility only measures the past. For a grid, lower volatility means price crosses fewer levels at a given spacing, so fewer cycles close. 3/3

One full cycle of my grid bot, in the order it happens. It reads no indicator at any point. 1/3

A cycle starts with a limit BUY posted below the current price. Then nothing happens until the market comes down to it. If price runs away instead, the bot cancels the order after a set time and posts it again at a new level. 2/3

When the BUY fills, the next scheduled update posts a SELL above the fill price. When that fills, the round trip is closed and the spread is realized. That's a cycle. My running count is on the site, straight from the bot's database. 3/3

Timothy Wadsworth got 51 months in prison for pushing unauthorized card charges through Stripe. 116 of 310 went through, worth $730,728. He bought bitcoin on Coinbase with part of it and sent it to co-conspirators. Each transfer is on bitcoin's public ledger.

Stacks co-founder Muneeb Ali gives bitcoin about two years to adopt quantum-resistant signatures and two more to move coins. NIST wants ECDSA retired by 2035. People underestimate how long their own projects take, the planning fallacy (Buehler, Griffin & Ross, 1994).

The 7-day average hashrate is back above 1 ZH/s, first time since March 3, with bitcoin near $80,000. Hashprice slid from $40.42 to $36.04 per PH/s a day since September 25, and difficulty rose 5.92%. Miners earn less per unit of work and keep adding more of it.

Ducat is putting its bitcoin-backed UNIT stablecoin on Cashu ecash as Turbo UNIT. Minting takes 160% collateral and liquidation starts at 135%, so a loan opened at the minimum sits about a 16% BTC drop from a forced sale. A spot grid with no loan has no such line.

Bitcoin slipped 1.1% in 24 hours to about $80,490. On Myriad, a prediction market, the odds of a drop to $77,500 before October ends rose from 32% to 43% in a day. A grid's buy orders below price sit at the same levels whatever those odds say.

One plain config file on your disk holds every exchange key my bot uses, so that file deserves some care. 1/3

On Linux and macOS the app writes the config file readable by your user only, since the 4 October 2026 update. Any program running under your account can still read it, which is one more reason to keep withdrawals off. 2/3

Don't copy that file to a cloud drive or a USB stick. Keep the keys once in a password manager, and back up the database folder instead, with the scheduler stopped. 3/3

On October 20, leveraged funds in CME bitcoin futures stood at 100 out of 100 on three years of positioning, their least short in that span. Asset managers were at 6, near their smallest net long. Both shrinking at once fits hedges unwinding. Small traders sat mid-range at 53.
