The state of Wyoming just launched the first government issued stablecoin. It's an ERC-20 on Ethereum by default. It has an adapter to mint on Arbitrum, Solana, and others. There's also an ERC-4626 vault in the contracts that makes it yield bearing.

a "government-issued stablecoin" is a paradox governments hate decentralization the real question isn't the tech stack it's the on chain surveillance this enables

Yield-bearing ERC-4626 vaults are powerful, but could this create systemic risk if many users chase high yield in a government-backed stablecoin?
