This year’s Orange & Blue Spring Game will have a bit of a different format, Sumrall said. Instead of two teams, the scrimmage will consist of offense v. defense, where the defense can earn points by making stops and forcing turnovers.

Florida football saw glaring issues hinder its effectiveness on both sides of the ball in a 45-17 loss to Missouri, but with the Gators set for a Homecoming bout against South Carolina on Saturday, defensive coordinator Brad White and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner spoke on exactly what needs to be improved ahead of Florida’s 12:45 p.m. kick. “There has to be more of a dog mentality,” White said. DJ Coleman on playing with more violence: “I feel like we have to play with more aggression on defense. I feel like we're playing kind of passive. I mean, some people might think it’s the scheme, but I feel like it comes from us.”

Faulkner on Eric Singleton Jr.: “One thing about him is he’s an extremely tough kid, and most kids would not be playing right now. And what he's even doing just for the team says a lot about him. He's definitely not full speed. You could see that Saturday, but the fact that he's going out there because he knows we're down says everything you need to know about the kid.”

“There's a lot of mistakes that were made in the game that we could control, and then there's some things that they did a better job than we did it,” Faulkner said. “We've got to get those things cleaned up.”

Faulkner on being out of rhythm Saturday: “In the second half when you get down, you know, we're not built for that right now, right? We were off schedule all day, no rhythm, and you know, you can see when we're on rhythm.”

In his sixth appearance at Gator Talk, Florida head coach Jon Sumrall spoke about the need to embrace the demoralizing 45-17 loss at Missouri and grow moving forward. “I’m not into the whole idea of ‘we’ll just bury it or just move past it,’” he said. “I’m like ‘no, you have to own it.’“ Check out this week’s Gator Talk takeaways HERE: alligator.org/article/2026/1…

Sumrall on the 12:45 p.m. kick vs. South Carolina: “We are a morning practice team, which means tomorrow morning our first meeting with our guys starts at 7 a.m. We're on the practice field by 9 o'clock ... they're a little bit used to the morning routine. I think when you're an afternoon practice team, you're worried about the noon game and maybe not being awake. But because we're a morning team, the night time games are the ones that I feel like we have to do a little extra to make sure they're wide awake for.”

Sumrall on South Carolina: “They remind me a little bit of Florida from last year, where the record doesn't show how talented they are because some things haven't gone their way.“

Sumrall on his locker room talk Saturday: “You know, I told the guys in the locker room after the game, I said, ‘guys, if this doesn't hurt you, like if this doesn't bother you and make you a little bit frustrated, angry, we have a real problem. Like, bigger than losing the game.’”

“I'm not into the whole idea of like ‘we'll just bury it or just move past it.’ I'm like, ‘no, you have to own it.’ Like, you have to,” Sumrall said. “You need to have that bad taste in your mouth and the sick feeling in your stomach for a little bit. Because if you don't, then you don't understand what you want to avoid moving forward.”

Sumrall on Saturday’s Mizzou game: “It was a frustrating performance by us on Saturday. Really disappointed in the way we handled the situation, and we have to own it. “Even after you win a game, you're still assessing what went right, what went wrong, what needs to be maybe tweaked or recalibrated. After a loss, it’s just probably more public.”

For the second consecutive week, the Jaguars logged two interceptions and showed a bend-but-don’t-break defense that forced opponents to leave the red zone without scoring. Jacksonville’s ability to generate takeaways has been a strength, and the Jags have allowed just 23 points and 106 rushing yards over the last two weeks en route to a 3-1 start.  Week 4 takeaways HERE: alligator.org/article/2026/1…
