THE FIRST HUMAN vs ROBOT FIGHT JUST HAPPENED. Humanity sent Frankie LaPenna. The machines sent a $100,000 EngineAI T800. The fight took place in San Francisco, and I’m not gonna lie what happens inside that cage is a little terrifying. The T800 kicks HARD, keeps coming forward, and at one point simply knocks LaPenna off his feet. Reports from the event say Frankie also injured his hand during the fight. This was supposed to be entertainment. But watching a full-size humanoid trade blows with a real person suddenly makes the whole “robot fighting” thing feel a lot less funny. We spent years watching this in movies. Now we’ve finally seen a madman actually try it in real life and he paid for it.

The same fingers it uses to grab things also carry the entire hand across a surface. And that’s where it gets weird. This thing can crawl to a task, recover after being knocked over, press keyboard commands, and even push objects into position. It doesn’t need a separate robot body to move around. The HAND is the robot. That may sound like a gimmick, but it solves a real problem: why build legs, wheels and arms separately if the same hardware can move AND manipulate? Robotics is getting stranger every year. And somehow, The Addams Family called this one decades ago.

So this is what REAL Figure 03 package delivery looks like. Cyberpunk is getting closer. Right now it’s still a little awkward. The robot walks slowly, takes its time figuring out where it is, and honestly looks pretty clumsy. But give it a few years. In the U.S., the last part of delivery is still mostly very human: a driver stops the van, gets out, grabs the box, walks it to your door, gets back in, then does the same thing again and again all day. That’s the part robots could kill first. The van pulls up. Figure 03 gets out, grabs your package, walks it to the door and comes back. Then it moves on to the next house. No one jumping in and out of the van hundreds of times. No one hauling boxes up driveways in the rain. And nobody’s going to rip open your package on the way to your house. The robot has zero reason to care what’s inside. For now, it looks a bit cringe. In a few years, this thing may be running to your door like those teenage delivery guys in American movies.

Robotics just made a quantum leap. Feels like we’re moving from the information age into the robotics age.
