She was sentenced to 70 years in prison at her federal trial in June and is now being held in the segregated housing unit (solitary confinement) at the Johnson County Jail while she awaits her state trial. There, she is strip searched and shackled every time she leaves her cell. We are raising $100,000 to hire a lawyer to fight for Mari in her state case and to fight NOW to get her out of the segregated housing unit.  The challenge is for 40 teams for Mari to raise $2,000 each by November 30th! For this to succeed (as it must!), we need to cast the net as widely as possible! So even if you can't form a team, please spread the word and donate what you can because every dollar helps!

From today's motion for discovery in the Minnesota 15 case. Same principle could apply to the Prairieland trial in which DOJ withheld records from a 2018 investigation into Antifa DFW finding that the group posed no threat to nat'l security & had not engaged in criminal activity.

Let me tell you my story as it was intended, that ends with the words that echo in my mind as I sit isolated in a single cell, but as long as you struggle with us we cannot be forgotten, they cannot succeed , from the belly of this beast we speak. The precedent set federally must be fought and to avoid the example Texas seeks to set for other states we need your eyes, ears and support to counter this campaign of terror meant to attack all of our communities."

A Harvard Law student, Sydney Nelson, wrote a good piece for Harvard's Access to Justice Lab on why court data should be set free. Court records are scattered across court websites, often riddled with errors, and cost money to get at. PACER overcharged people by more than $190 million over six years, and the Open Courts Act, which would have fixed a lot of this, never got a vote. a2jlab.org/a-princess-in-the… I'd add that some folks have been making a real dent. @mlissner and @freelawproject built CourtListener, a free archive of court opinions and filings, and RECAP, which makes PACER documents free once somebody has paid for them. They're at more than 250 million pages of court data. free.law/ It's good to see a law student taking this up. It would be even better to see Harvard's A2J folks and Free Law Project working the problem together. Open law, whether it's court records or the published works of legal professionals, is how people get to justice. Maybe they are and maybe they can use the secondary law from legal professions The Library at LexBlog has to breath life into primary law. I should be reaching out.
