I recently had the opportunity to interview my good friend
@TedTom for the Winning Coach podcast.
Ted has coached just about everywhere: a small college where he also taught classes and mowed the field, IMG, the Big Ten, several Division I programs, and now the Washington Nationals minor league system.
On this episode of The Winning Coach, he explains what changes when you go from college, where every game feels like Game 7, to pro ball, where developing players matters more than winning tonight.
A few takeaways...
→ Use standards, not rules. Base them on respect for people, time, and resources.
→ Culture isn't the quotes on your wall. It's how you act every single day.
→ Data only helps if it connects to your priorities and to the player in front of you.
→ "Fall in love with the monotony." Boring, detailed work wins games.
And after all that, Ted says he feels like he hasn't "done anything yet." That's the mindset.
Whether you coach a team or run a gym, this one's worth your time. Full episode at the link in the first comment.
