Tonight on Capital Xtra I’ll be paying tribute to an old friend, who just so happened to be an incredible lyricist, and a UK Rap pioneer. Over the years I have constantly played Sway’s music in the clubs and on air. I’ve toured the UK with him, and helped to introduce his artistry to the world. Through our mutual appreciation for the art of Rap, and our love of Hip Hop we are connected eternally. Sway lives on through his music which I will forever play out. Tonight I’ll be playing some of his bangers, remixes, and freestyles. 9pm Capital Xtra. Tap in 📡

Sway was ahead of his time. An incomparable elite lyricist who was a master of language. This is a freestyle that he did for my ‘Crunk and Grime’ mixtape. His bars were constructed with depth, substance, and humour. Listen to the flows, the metaphors, the verbal dexterity. There is no one else like him. This is Rap excellence 💫

We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sway. 🕊️ In 2005, he made MOBO history, beating global heavyweights including 50 Cent and The Game to win Best Hip-Hop Act - a huge moment for Sway and UK Hip Hop. Proud to have him as part of our history. Our love goes out to his family, loved ones and fans. ❤️

We lost a great one. An elite lyricist. A highly original creative wordsmith who was a UK Rap pioneer. A true self made entrepreneur. I had the great honour of working with Sway from the beginning his career. Throughout the genre defining moments; ‘Up Your Speed’, 'Little Derek', and 'Level Up', etc. I got to witness his development, growth, and impact across the world. Sway created bangers and inspired generations. Sending the deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
