Last time I was at the Plenary at MCEC was for Nick Cave. Today, @jade_kannangara from our lab rocked that very stage @bmh2024Melb presenting her research on the evolutionary implications of mitochondrial heteroplasmy in response to thermal selection.

Congrats to @JackAndrewBrand, @UpamaAich, Winston Yee & @BBM_Wong on this great study, and fun collaboration, exploring behavioural plasticity in flies. Led by Jack, we uncover differences in male behavioural consistency under divergent sexual selection tinyurl.com/mr2vm8rx
🚨 New paper in @ASNAmNat 🚨 Using experimental evolution for >320 generations, we show that high sexual selection conditions limit male behavioural plasticity. Paper 👉 tinyurl.com/mr2vm8rx Data and code 👉 osf.io/2xmr3/ @MonashBiol @SLUwildresearch

I am looking to recruit 1 Postdoc as part of our ERC StG to study how metabolic traits affect biodiversity-stability relationships in phytoplankton. If you would like to join my lab in Lisbon, please get in touch by email. The call will open in February! gulbenkian.pt/ciencia/resear…
So grateful and excited for been awarded an #ERCStG to study how METAbolic plasticity & evolution affect coexistence and community FUNctioning!🥳Many thanks to @ERC_Research, my team and the (many!) friends, colleagues and mentors for their help and support. More updates to come!

How important is mtDNA haplotype variation in influencing intraspecific behavioral diversity? Well, we don't really know but @JackAndrewBrand Francisco Garcia-Gonzalez, @DK_Dowling & @BBM_Wong think it is probably important. Find out why cell.com/trends/ecology-evol… @Trends_Ecol_Evo

In this review in @Trends_Ecol_Evo, led by @JackAndrewBrand, we outline why we believe that mitochondrial genetic variation is likely to be a driver of behavioral diversity; with @BBM_Wong and Francisco Garcia-Gonzalez. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
🚨 New paper in @Trends_Ecol_Evo 🚨 We outline how mitochondrial genetic variation can influence behavioural diversity within species. Big thanks to coauthors Francisco Garcia-Gonzalez, @DK_Dowling & @BBM_Wong! Paper 👉 tinyurl.com/2cx6d4vu @MonashBiol @SLUwildresearch

Check out this study led by @a_j_dobson: effects of diet on fly fitness depended on interactions with mtDNA haplotype, and mitonuclear interactions. Genotype matters in responses to diet, and the mtDNA is a key part of this, including a SNP in the 16S rRNA of the mito ribosome.
Why do individuals respond differently to dietary changes? #PLOSBiology study from @a_j_dobson @dk_dowling &co shows how #genetic differences in #mitochondria and the nucleus in #Drosophila interact to determine fitness response to #dietary manipulation. plos.io/3OO3eVR
