"I've been struggling with the flu a little bit the last few days. So I didn't wake up feeling particularly fresh this morning. "Chase [his caddie] did an amazing job yesterday getting me over the line, haven't been feeling great. "[I] went down to health metrics and saw a little 1 percent recovery in my Whoop. So I haven't really got any expectations for today. "And [I] just played flawless golf. Just hit it really nicely. Gave myself so many chances, and the putter just worked. "So don't really know what take with me. I don't think I've got many 1 percent recovery 63s left in me, but I'll take advantage of that one today. "[I] went back to my old faithful putter a few weeks ago, probably six, seven weeks ago now, and days like today, she's the best relationship I have in my life. But she has been temperamental at times, I won't lie to you. "But sticking to the processes that we have put in place, belief, that's all that comes down to. "I had the pleasure of playing with Edoardo Molinari the last couple days, and even yesterday, I just asked him: You're the stats guy - why do I like this golf course so much? "And he gave me a few points. I was like, okay, that makes sense. So then obviously took that with me through today." "It was a very nice round. I think I missed only two greens, so that helps. "It's an amazing golf course, so I'm trying to enjoy it. "In many sports I think French crowd is the best crowd, and today they showed it. It's fantastic playing at home in front of all the family, friends and all the French golfers, it's amazing. "Just another really, really solid day. I felt really comfortable out there. I think to birdie first, it's always nice to kind of get off to a nice start like that. "And then 2-under through 3, and you can kick on from there. "I felt like that my game was pretty solid all day. I was disappointed to drop my one shot, to be honest. It will stick with me. "I was disappointed at The Open, and then my form in the play-offs, I didn't play how I would have wanted to do it to end the PGA TOUR season. "I had a good week last week, and obviously [I'm] playing well so far. So feel like I'm in a nice spot to have a good off-season and kick on. "I'll be brutally honest, it is nice to be placing, I feel like it is needed, but it is nice to have that bonus that helps give yourself a little bit of a helping. "It'd be amazing [to win]. It would be amazing to be part of the history. I said at the start of the week, this tournament has a lot of history and a lot of great winners. "I think it was my second professional start as well. So, [I have] some form of connection here as well. "I've got to go out and play my own game. I feel like I'm in a position that if I go and shoot a good round tomorrow, then obviously it makes it almost impossible to catch. But long way to go, and just take it hole by hole. "It's been a great year. It's probably been the best year of my career. "So to continue that form throughout the year is obviously really nice, positive, and hopefully [I] can kind of play well tomorrow to continue that. "I've scrambled really well. My putting there on the last was really good, and 17 was really good, and chip shot on 18. "So there are times where you have to dig in, and you're not going to hit every shot perfect, even though I still have not learned that in 11 years at all. "But I'm pleased with the way I dug in and had a lot of good golf shots. "I think you've got to have confidence that you are going to go and win. I think I've got to stick to my game. "It's obviously a cliche, but a cliche for a reason. And to me I've obviously given myself a good opportunity tomorrow and hopefully can go and take it."
