FRAUD ALERT | DEBIT CARD SWAP SCAM The Durham Regional Police Service is warning the public about an ongoing debit card swap scam. In this scam, two suspects work together and will approach the victim in busy retail parking lots. One suspect will act as a customer purchasing food or goods and request the victim pay for their order in exchange for cash. They will claim they only have cash and do not have any cards for payment or that their payment cards are not functioning properly. The other suspect will act as a food delivery driver or vendor and will use a debit terminal to take payment. Both suspects are working together but will act as if they do not know each other. During the transaction, the suspect will secretly swap the victim’s debit card with a similar card, while having the victim enter their PIN into the debit terminal. The suspect will return a different card to the victim, before both suspects leave the area. The victim’s bank account is often drained within minutes. The first suspect is described as: female, Black, approximately 5’5” tall, approximately 20-30 years-old, with a medium build. The second suspect is described as: male, South Asian, approximately 5’5” tall, approximately 30-40 years-old, with a medium build, with a shaved head, full black-coloured beard. If you encounter anyone using this method to take a card payment in exchange for cash, or similar suspicious behaviour, please contact police. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1905. MISSING PERSON | CLARINGTON Police are requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing vulnerable 81-year-old male from Clarington. Ted, age 81, was last seen on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., in the area of Taunton Road and Robins Road in Clarington, and may be in the Prince Edward County area. Ted is described as: male, White, 81-years-old, approximately 5'5" tall, with a slim build, and a bald head. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, blue button-up long sleeve shirt, black t-shirt, blue jeans, and green/tan hiking boots. Anyone that knows the whereabouts of this male or that has any information is asked to contact police at 905-579-1520.

MISSING PERSON | OSHAWA Police are requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing vulnerable 14-year-old female from Oshawa. Brooklynn, age 14, was last seen in the area of Ritson Road North and Pentland Street in Oshawa. Brooklynn is described as: female, Indigenous, approximately 5'10" tall, with a slim build, blue eyes, and black hair. This morning the DRPS Cycling Team joined several other police services in the Canadian Police Memorial - Ride to Remember. Chief Moreira, Deputy Chief Bhatt, Superintendent Sitaram, and Superintendent Courneyea welcomed over 200 riders to DRPS' East Division for their brief stop. OPP Youth Foundation donated a bicycle to a deserving youth along their route, and Aiden from Hillsdale Public School was the recipient in Durham Region. DRPS' Cycling Team also raised $2,000 which was presented and donate to SOLE. The 725-kilometre ride will end in Ottawa for the National Police Memorial. Paying tribute to all fallen officers who lost their life in the line of duty. You will never be forgotten. Thank you to all cyclists, support crew and motorcycle members for taking part in this memorial ride. #RidetoRemember #HeroesInLife

DRPS Chief for a Day Winner Anayta Sehrawat On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Chief Moreira visited Bobby Orr Public School in Oshawa to surprise this year’s Police Chief for a Day essay contest winner Anayta Sehrawat. In front of her whole school, Chief Moreira called Anayta up to the front to share the good news. More than 100 grade five students from across Durham Region submitted essays for the contest and 12 finalists were selected. The finalists visited DRPS Regional Headquarters to read their essays to a community panel of judges, including Chief Peter Moreira, DRPA President Andrew Tummonds, DRPS Police Service Board Member John Ecker and members of the Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night (PADAN) Committee. The community panel then deliberated and selected Anayta as this year’s winner. Anayta will serve as Chief for a Day on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 and will be a guest of honour at the Annual PADAN awards night on October 22, 2026 at Deer Creek in Ajax. Police are searching for a male after he stole multiple packages he was not authorized to retrieve. On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at approximately 3:05 p.m., an unknown male attended the MedPlus Pharmacy located at 111 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa. The suspect, without authorization, stole a package that had been shipped to the victim and left for pick-up. On Thursday, August 27, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the same male attended the Orono General Store located at 5331 Main Street in Orono. The suspect used a fraudulent drivers licence to steal a package. The victim realized the package was stolen when they later attended the store to retrieve their package. The suspect is described as: male, White, approximately 25-years-old, approximately 5’10” tall, with a slim build, short black hair, and a black mustache with goatee. Today we held our Chief for a Day competition which hosted 12 finalists to present their essays. The judges have a tough decision to make as they all did a fantastic job outlining what they would do if they took over for Chief Moreira for the day. The competition ended with a K9 demonstration and visit from Cst. Galipeau and PSD Rocky. Stay tuned tomorrow morning as we reveal the Mini Chief. We would also like to thank the 2025 Mini Chief Advaita who has done an amazing job over the past year.

On September 12, 2026 DRPS' Central West Division hosted their 2026 Community Safety Day, which saw hundreds of attendees come out and enjoy various activities. Community members had an opportunity to tour vehicles and displays from units such as our K9 Unit, Traffic Services, Marine Unit, Forensic Identification, and tour DRPS’ light armored vehicle, several police cruisers, and other emergency service vehicles. Thank you to all residents who attended and spent time learning about policing, and other first responders. A special thanks to the DRPS' specialty units, DRPS' Youth in Policing program and members who volunteered their time to make this event a huge success.
