I JUST RECEIVED THE FINAL VERSION OF THE BOOK!🥹 We poured EVERYTHING into this book. Many books focus on AI from the perspective of the highest levels of education but what about the average corporate dev that wants to stay ahead & do well at their jobs? We wrote this for you!

Every fitness app I’ve ever used, I eventually quit. So I’m building the one I wish existed. I have started losing weight but everything feels like a chore with these apps. The problem is the apps became another job. - Log the meal. - Find the food. - Fix the serving size. - Enter the workout. - Do it again tomorrow. So I’m building around one idea: I shouldn’t have to track my life. I should just tell the app what happened. Take a picture of dinner. Send a screenshot of what I ordered. Say, “Bench was 185 for 8, 8, 7.” The software handles the bookkeeping. Still very early, but this is what it looks like so far:

There is something special about a room full of software developers who just want to hang out with other software developers. No big pitch. No forced networking. No pretending everybody has it all figured out. Just people talking shop, sharing ideas, laughing, debating, teaching, learning, and probably arguing about something unnecessarily specific. That is what I love about Dallas Software Developers Group! We get to build a place where people who spend all day thinking about weird technical problems can walk into a room and immediately feel like they found their people. Sometimes community is not about where it takes you. Sometimes it is just really good to be around people who get it. Another great night with the Dallas dev community. ❤️

The recruiter did not reject you. They ran out of reasons to keep reading. You are not competing with better software engineers. You are competing with better documented ones. Documentation is a skill and it is learnable! You have learned harder things.

An AI agent that can only give advice is just a chatbot with a better title. Forge lets you build custom actions that Rovo agents can execute inside your team's Atlassian workflow. Read a Jira issue. Analyze it. Post the findings. Update the work. Nobody needs another AI that tells them what to do. Build one that takes something off their plate.

THIS is where I think Atlassian has a really interesting advantage. The goal isn’t “use AI.” The goal is removing the translation tax between what I mean & what gets built Record the problem in Loom. Explain it naturally. Pass that context directly into the development workflow

AI can get you the answer faster, but if you always ask for the answer, six months later you might still know nothing. Use AI as a teaching tool too. Ask why it chose an approach, what the tradeoffs are, and what you should learn from it.

A good agent hook can save you from reviewing obvious mistakes. Run the final output against your own rubric before it reaches you. If it doesn’t meet your standards, send it back to fix itself first. That makes the human review actually worth your time.

I saw all those photos from CYC. Day 3 back in the gym. It's over with now, I'm back, but I can't lie, the level of sore I am is unreal. Just avoiding ego, keeping it as light as I can so my body adjusts.

The Atlassian Marketplace is essentially a giant list of problems customers were willing to pay somebody else to solve. There will always be opportunity for people who solve expensive problems.

You have no control over whether someone offers you a job. But you DO HAVE control over whether your name comes up when someone says, “Do you know anyone good?”

AI didn’t make technical skill less valuable. It just made it painfully obvious who actually understands what they’re building.
