A rare personal post:
When Devin (my wife) was diagnosed with cancer roughly three years ago, my desire to paint all but disappeared. Back in March of this year, a sudden urge to paint came over me, so I did. I painted a sunset. It ended up being the last painting I made while Devin was still here with us. I find it fitting that a sunset was the subject of that painting. After months of having no desire to paint, that feeling has slowly started to return over the past couple of days. So, I painted this today. It’s the first painting I’ve done since her passing. It’s a morning landscape from right behind our house—a place Devin, the kids, and I walked many times together. I find it fitting that this would be the subject of my first painting since losing her. Even though I am still mourning the loss of her, I’m reminded that God’s mercies are new every morning.
