"The Beatles were formulaic" the whole appeal post-beatlemania was how non formulaic they were. Dislike them all you want but a band that can create She's Leaving Home, Mr. Kite, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and A Day in the Life on one album isn't following some formula.
