Reading a book on the cultural history of Poitiers, I learnt that, during his late teens, Michel Foucault thoroughly enjoyed the occasional donkey-ride in his hometown. The picture was allegedly taken in 1943; the names of the photographer and the donkey remain unknown.

Out on 6 Dec: 2nd vol. in the 3 vol. annotated English translation of a selection of Bataille's essays from 1944-61. Bataille aficionados will know these texts from vols 11 & 12 of his complete works in French,but it's still good to have these in English with a critical apparatus
